Hewlett-Packard rejects rumors of abandoning development of Windows 7 tablet computer

Hewlett-Packard's local time in Wednesday dismissed rumours that the company had stopped developing Windows 7 tablets, saying it could still launch a Windows 7 tablet on the market.

"We are evaluating Windows 7 tablet computers and will soon make a decision," Marlene Somsak, Hewlett-Packard spokeswoman, said Somsak. Hewlett-Packard announced a 1.2 billion dollar takeover of Palm in April and will apply the webOS operating system to a range of devices, including Tablet PCs. "We didn't expect to buy palm when we first unveiled the Windows 7 tablet program," Somsak said. "Hewlett-Packard has publicly stated that it will launch its webOS tablet, and Somsak did not comment on HP's product plan," he said.

HP's website still has information on HP Slate 500, which runs Windows 7, indicating that HP did not "kill" the product. Data shows that the slate is configured with a 1.6GHz processor, 1GB memory, and a 8.9-inch touchscreen, running Windows 7 and having two cameras, which are used to shoot videos and photos, respectively. Slate passed the "Energy Star" certification.
