&http://www.aliyun.com/zixun/aggregation/37954.html ">NBSP; Open the Application menu, you may wonder: how some software is not displayed in it? Explanation: Gnome and KDE use freedesktop.org recently developed a common menu format that allows program developers to add a few lines of text to their programs to automatically appear in the menu. XFCE also uses this standard. However, since this standard was recently developed, there is no such menu information in many of the software packages in the Ubuntu repositories. The good news is that Debian has its own set of menu systems (which have been in use for years), and all software installed with APT will appear in the Debian menu. You can also use it in Ubuntu.

Installation:

Make sure you have the Universe software warehouse enabled

Install menu using synaptic or apt

Run at Terminal:

sudo update-menus

Now open the Application menu and you will find a new submenu of Debian that contains all the software you have installed (deb format). Whenever a software that uses a Debian menu is installed, Update-menu runs automatically. The same applies to Kubuntu. The Debian menu appears in the K menu. Other desktop environments can also use the Debian menu, if not (Xfce not likely?), you can do this:

1 Install Pdmenu 2 in the terminal run Pdmenu so the Debian menu will be given in ncurses.

The documentation for menu can be found in the following directory/usr/share/doc/menu/help page in/usr/share/doc/menu/html/
