HP has staked its belief in cloud computing as open and integrated, and has launched a collection of its software and services, hoping to encourage companies to implement the first private cloud and support its public cloud.
At the Discover conference in Las Vegas this week, HP unveiled software and several services based on the OpenStack Cloud OS architecture, which Hewlett-Packard believes will help companies better implement workload migration across mixed clouds.
With the new cloud OS, users can create a portfolio definition of service assignments, just like a template, which is immediately available once the user needs an infrastructure, said Wendy Cartee, vice president of HP Fusion cloud.
Cloud OS can be used across HP Cloudsystem local hardware and HP public cloud as well as management cloud. The end of this year can also be used for HP Moon Landing (moonshot) server. HP is bundling Cloud OS and Moonshot, moonshot is HP's new server product line, designed to run Internet scalable applications that make it easier to provide and manage target workloads, with the most notable benefit being web hosting.
To enable enterprise users to start the first private cloud faster, HP released the Cloudsystem Enterprise Starter Suite. This suite mixes cloud automation and programming functionality into a single product, which Hewlett-Packard says could significantly reduce upfront investment costs.
Eventually, HP's new services can simplify the development and deployment of the enterprise in the public cloud. In addition, users can access larger instance types, enabling them to better run large data analysis and high-performance workloads in the public cloud.
The company has also disclosed a new virtual private cloud network function that fuels the software definition network. Security is ensured when the IT department connects the public Cloud to the local network. Because of the OpenStack Quantum network virtualization layer, users can create virtual private networks (VPNs) across the cloud through this new product.
HP also released its free Cloud OS sandbox, which allows users to test and evaluate their business needs. To foster a good experience for inexperienced users, HP has also released the Integrated Cloud Professional Service Suite (converged Cloud Professional Services Suite), which can guide IT staff through all stages of implementation, including seeking strategic partners.
