Lenovo's net profit for the first quarter of 2013-2014 was 174 million U.S. dollars, up 23.04% from a year earlier, above market expectations, according to Lenovo's latest quarterly earnings report.
In terms of total sales, mobile interconnection and digital home business (including mobile phones) have boosted Lenovo's quarterly performance. Lenovo's total sales in the quarter were $8.787 billion trillion, up 9.7% from a year earlier. Mobile interconnection and digital households grew by 105% over the same period last year, bringing in 1.203 billion dollars in revenue. While the PC business still has a 7.307 billion income, it is growing at a slower rate of 2%.
By now, Lenovo is the world's largest PC market with a market share of 16.7%, while the tablet business is in fifth place. Lenovo smartphones also ranked fourth in the global smartphone market, according to a Gartner report reported last night, with Gartner's 10.67 million sales in the second quarter of 2013, with a market share of 4.7%, which grew 144% per cent compared with the same period last year. (4.37 million of smartphones were sold last year), but 95% of the sales are in the Chinese market.
Overall business, the Chinese market accounted for 42% of the total income, Americas accounted for 22%, the Asia-Pacific region is 15%.
