The Cfgmaker program in MRTG can only create profiles on the network interface and simultaneously listen for two kinds of object identities: the uplink and downlink traffic statistics for the network card. It then determines what kind of data is recorded in the data directory based on the configuration file. Indexmaker also uses these profiles to create an overview file, or a summary View Web page that is identified by the MIB object you are listening to.

The Summary View Web page displays only the daily statistics. You can choose the Summary view chart to get daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly charts. Some of the parameters in the configuration file are related to detailed view, while others are related to summary view.

If you want to see other pairs of object identities, because Cfgmaker does not recognize the identity of the object associated with the NIC, you have to manually create the configuration file. MRTG and Indexmaker can handle the identity of objects in a separate custom profile and can run well when set correctly.

Parameter format

The MRTG configuration parameters often follow a chart name (graph http://www.aliyun.com/zixun/aggregation/11696.html ">name") enclosed in square brackets and a colon. The format is as follows:

Parameter[graph Name]: value

For easy editing, chart parameters are often used in combination. Each chart can only listen to two target identities in the target parameter, and is often the one at the top of the list of chart names. The values identified by the two objects are separated by the ampersand, and the preceding is the target ID of the input, and the following is the target identity of the output.

Legend parameters

On a Web page that displays detailed data, each chart has a legend that displays the maximum value, average, and current value of the object's identity. You can use Lengendi to set the image of the input data (the image identified by the first object) and use the Lengendo to set the image of the output data (the image that the second object identifies)

There is only a limited amount of space underneath each chart legend, so MRTG also has the parameters of legend 1 and legend 2 at the end of the page to provide more detail. The LENGEND1 parameter is a supplement to the Lengendi parameter, and the same lengend2 parameter is a supplement to the Lengendo parameter.

Ylengend is the y-axis legend, which is the value you want to compare. In the default configuration of MRTG, this ratio is the data traffic that flows through the interface in bits (bit) or byte (byte) units. The following is an example of the legend in the default configuration file in MRTG:

YLEGEND[GRAPH1]: Bits per SECONDLEGEND1[GRAPH1]: Incoming traffic in Bits per SECONDLEGEND2[GRAPH1]: outgoing Traffic in Bits per SECONDLEGENDI[GRAPH1]: INLEGENDO[GRAPH1]: Out

If you leave a null value at the value of the legend, as in the following example, you can prevent MRTG from outputting the legend line at the bottom of the chart.

LEGENDI[GRAPH1]:

Below you will learn how to combine the legend and object identities in different situations.
