VMware convened a meeting last week for its public cloud IaaS (infrastructure, service). At the meeting, VMware briefed the invited investors on the company's major strategic transformation. While Microsoft is not on the list of invitees, it does not prevent Microsoft from continuing to comment negatively on VMware.

While VMware issued the statement, Barzdukas, general Manager of Microsoft Server and tools marketing, said in her blog last Wednesday that VMware's new solution--vcloud mixed cloud services At best, it's just another case of how it vendors are arranging their existing infrastructure to improve productivity. ”

VMware says the Vcloud hybrid service, which is to be launched in the second quarter of this year, will extend its private cloud management, allocation, network, and security models to the public cloud, allowing customers to transfer workloads more easily. VMware's strategy is very similar to Microsoft's Windows Azure and system-centric strategy. Like Microsoft, VMware wants to demonstrate its ability to address the management challenges of the mixed cloud.

VMware says that while they are about to run and manage Vcloud hybrid services, they are not yet clear on which partners the service will operate on, and how much they cost.

Barzdukas stressed that Microsoft has built a good reputation in the public cloud with Windows Azure and has a wealth of experience running large public cloud services such as Outlook.com (the predecessor of Hotmail) and Xbox Live.

Barzdukas that VMware lacks expertise in this area. Worse, VMware is disrupting the market with some incorrect cloud views. "If I were a VMware client, I would ask myself if I really wanted to bet my bets and the future of my company's IT department on a vendor who was unable to determine its own direction in the cloud's growth process," she said in her blog. ”

However, a VMware spokeswoman who interviewed the US CRN website in Friday declined to respond to Microsoft's comments.

VMware CEO Pat Gelsinger told the Wall Street Journal earlier this week that while Vcloud hybrid services would become "a service provided by VMware", the company would use the partner's existing infrastructure rather than create and operate its own infrastructure. At this stage, VMware has not yet identified the infrastructure of which partners they will use, and how these configurations will operate.

Microsoft Virtualization Partners, chief executive of Convergent Computing, based in Oakland, Calif., said it is hard to imagine the prospects for VMware's foray into data center infrastructure. "VMware's collaboration with companies with data center experience and understanding of how to manage data centers will be more meaningful," he said. ”

Although VMware has not taken Microsoft's negative comments seriously in the past, VMware has since last year responded fiercely to Microsoft's criticisms. Last June, Steve Herrod, a former chief technology officer at VMware, countered that Microsoft had always liked to comment on unpublished products as if they had succeeded. "Microsoft's own Hyper-V V3 has been talking about 1.5 of the time and has not shipped yet," he said. "(Gundy compiled)
