The behavior of the MRTG runtime is controlled by a configuration file. This configuration file can be generated using Cfgmaker. (Refer to the Cfgmaker manual). But a more elaborate configuration still needs to be done manually.

Syntax
The MRTG configuration file syntax follows some simple rules:
• Tube detection must be at the beginning of a line. • Each line that begins with a space after a line of keywords is the successor of the line of keywords. • Blank lines are ignored. • lines that begin with # are comment lines. • You can import other files into the configuration file using the Include:file form.
Example: Include:base-option.inc If the included file is specified by a relative path, both the current directory and the directory containing the primary configuration file are searched.
Global Configuration Keywords
Workdir WORKDIR Specifies the build file for the log file and Web page file. Example: Workdir:/USR/TARDIS/PUB/WWW/STATS/MRTG
Optional Global keywords
Htmldir
HTMLDIR Specifies the location of HTML (or shtml, which will be supported later). Note: Workdir overrides Htmldir and Imagedir, logdir settings. Example: htmldir:/www/mrtg/
Imagedir
IMAGEDIR Specifies the folder where the generated pictures are stored. This folder should be set up in an HTML folder. Example: Imagedir:/www/mrtg/images
