According to foreign media reports, the nineth session of the ALLTHINGSD Technical Conference ("D9"), sponsored by the Wall Street Journal, continued in Wednesday, when Twitter chief executive Dick Costoro Dick Costolo became one of the main players in the conference. In an interview with Walt Mossberg, the host, Walter Mossberg, he talked about the Twitter picture-sharing service and the business model.

The following is a transcript of Costoro's interview at the D9 conference in Wednesday:

Wednesday 10:47 (United States Pacific Time, same below): Mossberg asked, the Pew Internet and American Life Survey project just released a survey showing that 13% American adults are already Twitter users, with a corresponding ratio of 8% in November 2010.

Costoro: No third party statistics are accurate. We receive 13 billion application programming interface (API) requests a day, which leads to third-party clients. We don't even track the whereabouts of all Twitter messages. Twitter internally believes we are growing much faster than we think. The number of users using mobile devices to access Twitter has increased by 150% since the start of the year. It took three years for the first time to reach 1 billion of Twitter's total information, and today, Twitter handles 1 billion messages every 6 days.

10:49 Mossberg Q: How many American public are currently using Twitter services?

Costoro: We will not disclose the data.

10:49 Mossberg: Please talk about Twitter's station and outside use.

Costoro: Most Twitter users do not visit the main Twitter site, and the number of users who actually use Twitter via Apple's iphone, RIM BlackBerry and Google's Android phone is growing dramatically.

10:51 Mossberg: You bought some client developers earlier, which caused some dissatisfaction among some outside developers, right?

Costoro: We are encouraging outside developers to get into the corresponding value chain. The number of external developers engaged in Twitter application development has reached 600,000, and Twitter clients reach thousands of. Meanwhile, media and other manufacturers such as the Wall Street Journal have joined in using Twitter. These manufacturers want to carry out value-added services and we can just meet their needs.

10:55 Mossberg: After you acquire some external applications, you are competing with other outside developers. How do you get along with this part of the outside developer?

Costoro: We have a large number of external developers. Some of the official services Twitter offers will overlap with applications from outside developers. We want to identify the business direction of Twitter and give space to external developers so they can join the Twitter value chain.

10:56 Mossberg: So, your relationship with outside developers has not deteriorated? And you're going to launch a new service to demonstrate it. (Video demo)

Mossberg: Please explain the service you just demonstrated.

10:59 Costoro: This is the "Twitter picture sharing experience", which will be officially launched in the coming weeks.

11:00 Mossberg: Is it difficult to add images to Twitter?

Costoro: Twitter has a large base of users. In addition, a number of Third-party Twitter clients may have their own authority rules. In addition to the photo sharing service, we have also improved the performance of the Twitter image Search service.

11:02 Mossberg: In the future, these images will always be with the Twitter message, right?

Costoro: Yes, they will be part of the Twitter metadata.

11:03 Mossberg: Are you going to archive these pictures? Costoro: Yes, but not all the pictures are archived, but through a special algorithm, select only some of the pictures to save.

11:03 Mossberg: You are offering a picture-sharing service, which is tantamount to more direct competition with Facebook. Facebook, after all, offers a picture-sharing service.

Costoro: Two companies have different picture service modes. Twitter image sharing is a real-time feature, while a Facebook photo-sharing service is more like a picture archive. As I said earlier, we do not save every picture that a user uploads.

11:06 Mossberg: What about the existing Third-party Twitter image and video sharing services Yfrog and Twitpic for the official photo-sharing service from Twitter?

Costoro: As I said earlier, our business overlaps with third-party services, and we want external services to be added to the Twitter value chain.

11:07 Mossberg: Will Twitter support all platforms? Would you consider developing your own network operating system (WebOS)?

Costoro: There are no plans to develop webOS. The fascinating thing about Twitter is that it can be used in any device, and it can support SMS services. Users can receive Twitter messages on their phones without even having to sign up for a Twitter account.

11:08 Mossberg: Twitter messaging is really powerful. A few years ago, you were actually focusing on Twitter's SMS features.

Costoro: In some cases, push reminders are replacing SMS features. But for a large number of users, especially in many countries and regions, SMS services still play an important role.

11:12 Mossberg: Google, Apple, Amazon and Facebook are "platform four Giants", said Eric Schmidt, the former CEO and current chairman of Google, at yesterday's D9 conference. Plus ebay's network payment service PayPal and Twitter. You have not entered the list of the "Platform four Giants" listed by Schmidt, what do you think of that?

Costoro: It's good to go to the fifth place. On the other hand, things can change over time.

11:15 Mossberg: Has Twitter found a business model?

Costoro: Yes. More than 80% of advertisers who have worked with Twitter are willing to renew their contracts. In addition, users are far more involved in Twitter advertising than traditional online advertising.

11:18 Mossberg: Has Twitter entered the profitability phase?

Costoro: It is inconvenient to talk about the problem at present.

11:19 Costoro: Back to business mode, last year we expected that by the end of last year, we would have developed 100 advertisers, in fact, last year we developed a total of 150 advertisers, has now increased to 600. But we are not in a hurry to get Twitter to be full of ads, which is unrealistic. We do not urgently need to achieve a significant increase in advertising revenue in the near future.

11:22 Mossberg: When do you plan to make an initial public offering (IPO)?

Costoro: The long-term success of a company is not directly linked to its successful IPO. The big IPO activity has nothing to do with market success.
