After launching the 10.1-inch Lumia 2520 Tablet PC, Nokia plans to further expand its tablet lineup by releasing a 8-inch tablet computer Lumia 2020 in the first quarter of 2014. Sources point out that Lumia 2520 and Lumia 2020, two Tablet PCs, are positioned in the high-end market. LG Electronics has announced that it will promote its Tablet PC new product LG G PAD 8.3 in Taiwan on November 25, with a retail price of about NT $9900 ($ 335). Sony Mobile is expected to release more tablets in 2014, following the launch this year of Xperia Tablet Z, which is positioned as the high-end Tablet PC market. At the same time, Huawei and ZTE, China's local retailer, have been accelerating their partnerships with telecoms operators to boost their entry-level Tablet PC sales. Sources from Taiwan's supply chain say that the mainland's local white-label Tablet PC vendors are expected to deliver 80 million to 90 million tablets this year, up 60% to 80% per cent year-on-year. By next year, the figure will reach 100 million units, up 25% year-on-year. The industry initially believed that the 7-inch entry-level brand tablet, which was priced below 100 dollars, would be under intense pressure from the white tablet, but so far the sales momentum for it has remained strong.
Global tablet shipments are up 25% to 30% per cent year-on-year this year, with the same growth in white-label PCs sold by mainland retailers. Some brand sellers say there will be no more than a 100-dollar tablet in the near future, as the way to snatch market share from the white-label tablet market will hurt its brand image, and the after-sale service also needs cost.
According to Digitimes, the mainland's local vendors ' shipments of white Tablet PCs were 25 million units in the third quarter, up 40.4% from a year earlier.
