Preach Foursquare to borrow the street

Two of the 2010 hottest sites, Groupon and Foursquare, seem ready to come to China to test the water. The day before yesterday we just confirmed that Groupon will build a team in the country, and today we received news that Foursquare also came.

A reader contacted us by saying that he had seen an anonymous comment on the Quora of "whether Foursquare should enter the Chinese market through the street":

Multiple channels have already stated that both sides are already negotiating (the takeover is possible)

It became interesting. We also contacted the relevant head of the street, who declined to comment.

How credible do you think this is?

If it does, it's good for Foursquare.

The street should be regarded as the domestic lbs check-in service is the most active slightly. Its recent collaboration with Starbucks and the recent launch of the API has made people feel bright. It does have the potential to become a market leader, and if Foursquare wants to lead the check-in service in China, buying the street will make it easier to localize after the day. On the other side, since China's lbs market is still at an early stage, I don't think any lbs service will be valued too high (at least not as high as the domestic Groupon clones are now). So, if, just if the deal is really done, it should be a great thing for Foursquare.

But it doesn't feel so good.

Less than a year on the street to become the market leader, and their team before the contact, very vibrant at the same time its economic strength should be good. The Chinese market for them to develop the space is too big, so early in the rush to sell out is a bit unreasonable. and sell it to a company that doesn't understand the Chinese market, even if its own profit model is not very good (this is far less than Groupon) Foursquare, the deal is too early for both sides.

Let's wait a few days for some new news.
