KeywordsPrivate cloud application run private cloud implementation work
When the IT organization recognizes the potential security issues in the public cloud, that is, if business applications start using Amazon EC2, they may lose control of their data centers and they will begin to push for private cloud implementation. There are many reasons to think this is a good idea, including the rapid application of mobile devices in their companies. Private cloud is a successful way to manage and implement security policies for mobile devices.
One of the first tasks that must be done before a private cloud is implemented is to identify the use cases of cloud computing. Which applications are you going to run in a private cloud? Do you have a large number of applications running on a cluster or special hardware UNIX? Do you have a large number of old applications running on a mainframe? If the last two questions are answered in the affirmative, The amount of work you do with UNIX and mainframe workload virtualization tasks will be enormous. The virtualization software we use to build a private cloud is running on a x86 platform. This means that if you want to virtualize UNIX applications and mainframe applications so that they run on a private cloud, the architecture of these applications must support running on the x86 platform. This is not a simple task. You have to evaluate whether it is worthwhile to eventually migrate old applications to private clouds, or just focus on migrating your Linux and Windows applications to private clouds and writing new applications for cloud computing.
It is obvious that implementing a private cloud is challenging and expensive to spend. You need in-house professionals to facilitate or assist private cloud implementations, unless you contract a private cloud provider to provide professional services that will replace your implementation, or you can hire a Third-party consulting firm to collaborate with a private cloud provider. In any case, the cost of building a private cloud is very expensive. Not only do you need to train your employees to use a private cloud, you must also create new business processes for change management, configuration, security, and more. You may also need to purchase new monitoring tools to monitor the performance and security of virtual networks, virtual switches, and so on, because physical monitoring tools are generally unable to monitor traffic in virtual environments.
Similar to traditional data centers, IT organizations do not need to prepare resources beyond their capabilities to handle unexpected applications, but you can get a better elasticity in a private cloud than a traditional data center. For this reason, when you implement your private cloud, you should plan for integration with the public cloud provider. This means that when you choose your public cloud provider, you should focus on the hypervisor, network, and storage mode used by the public cloud provider. For example, the Eucalyptus system Company's proprietary cloud software based on Eucalyptus is compatible with Amazon EC2 cloud computing software, which means Eucalyptus supports EC2 's cloud computing APIs. If you decide to move some of the private cloud applications to the public cloud later, or if you already have some applications running in the public cloud, this attention to detail will give you a lot of worry and effort in the later stages.
Server virtualization is only part of implementing a private cloud. To make the most of your private cloud implementations, you should also virtualize storage, implementation automation, and business processes, while ensuring that you will implement a self-service Portal/service directory to allow private cloud users to choose services for their jobs.
The automation/Business process tools run at the top of the virtual layer, including virtualized servers, networks, and storage. They greatly reduce the amount of manual work involved, such as configuring servers, erecting fire-fighting equipment, connecting servers to the network, and so on, which eliminates human error associated with manual operations.
Macro steps for implementing a private cloud include server virtualization, storage virtualization, and the choice of management and monitoring tools to run in a virtual environment that will implement automation, business processes, and self-service Portal/service catalogs. Your job is to choose a private cloud provider to help you do this, as well as train your own staff to use cloud computing and develop new business processes.
