The first Data center to form two clouds: cloud computing + rain Clouds

Facebook's first data center ran into an ironic problem: a real cloud formed in the IT room and wetted the server.

Facebook's first data center, located in Oregon State, Plainview, although Facebook had previously hinted at the problem with the "humidity problem," Jay Parikh, the social networking infrastructure owner, told foreign media in Thursday that in a few minutes of the summer of 2011, Facebook's data center has two clouds: one to support social networks and the other to water the data center.

"I got a call, ' Jay, there's a cloud in the data center, '" Parikh said. "' What do you mean, outside? ' "No, inside. "People were terrified. "It's raining inside the data center," he explains.

The cause of the problem is that the data center uses a bold air-conditioning system designed to reduce cooling. Unlike the traditional facilities that use power-intensive, true-expansion cooling devices to maintain continued low temperatures, consumer internet giants such as Google, Facebook and other companies use water-cooled construction facilities using external air.

The reason for the formation of rain clouds inside the data center

During the first summer run of the Plainview Data center, a problem with the facility's building management system has led to a constant cycle of high temperature and low humidity air in the hot channel, although the water-based steam cooling system managed to cool the air-which means it was too damp when the unit returned to the cold channel of the server.

Several servers were on the go because their front supply shorted out. Parikh said the Facebook data center's crackling noise caused by the irresistible physical laws of Facebook's servers lasted for a few minutes

Facebook has learned this lesson by designing an energy-supply device with a hermetically sealed device for its servers, or "a rubber raincoat", as Parikh calls it. "That's one of the measures. When you can achieve a cooling effect of 100%, it is amazing from the point of view of efficacy, but the coverage must be larger. "Parikh said.

The company has also improved its construction management system to ensure that the problem does not recur. At the moment, Facebook's data centers are one of the most efficient bit rooms in the entire cloud computing industry, and in some ways even better than Google's own facilities.

Since then, Facebook's data centers have never seen any other similar clouds.
