CNET Technology Information Network May 19 International report New York Times reporter Ashlee Vance that Dell will release a low-power server using the Granville (via) chip. The report said that Dell is expected to release this week with the Granville Nano chip system, each system contains 12 complete servers, and each server consumes 15 watts. For Granville, securing a Dell customer is a big win. Granville is a big contender for the low-priced Netbook (Netbook) market, but the server market has been the site of Intel and AMD. Dell is bound to sell this new batch of servers to web hosting companies, but there is no need to expect too much performance. Vance wrote: "Granville Chip only run 1.3GHz to 1.6GHz, in the performance of the server chip, ranking is very low." However, it is low speed and other architectural changes that keep this chip low power and low cost. For example, a new Dell server is priced at less than 400 dollars per unit and is only part of the average server price. AMD and Intel may scoff at such performance, but for Granville, securing a big customer for Dell is a major success, possibly attracting other customers to adopt the Granville chip. The market share of Granville chips in the first quarter of this year is only 0.4% per cent, far less than the 77.3% of Intel and 22.3% of AMD, IDC figures show. In the mobile market, the city's occupancy rate is 0.7%.
