Although it is common to use routers to connect to the Internet, ADSL is often used (ADSL is a ' DSL ', "a" means "asymmetric", or "asymmetric") http://www.aliyun.com/zixun/ Aggregation/3280.html "> Modem connects to the Internet via PPPoE. Of course, you need to apply to your Internet service provider (ISP) for Internet connection services, and you can connect and use the Internet after you apply. Then the DSL signal on your ADSL modem will show you the line connecting to the Internet is in sync.

You need a username and password from your ISP to use your DSL account, and you need a suitable network cable to connect the Ethernet card and the PPPoE modem.

Configure PPPoE at the command line

We use terminals to configure modems. Open the terminal via the Application > Attachment > Terminal on the menu.

You need to install the PPPoE package to use the following commands. This package is installed by default, but may be lost while changing the configuration. If the following commands do not execute, you will need to install this package (refer to the section of the PPPoE package installation).

Enter in the terminal:

sudo pppoeconf

A text menu based program guides you through the following steps:

Verify that the Ethernet card is detected.
Enter your username (as noted by your ISP: Please clear the "username" in the input box when you enter it, or you may cause a validation error).
Enter your password (provided by your ISP).
If you have configured a PPPoE connection, you will be notified that the connection will be modified.
An option pops up: You are asked if you need ' noauth ' and ' defaultroute ' options and remove ' Nodetach ', and here you choose Yes.
Use Peer DNS-select Yes.
2¥q MSS problem-Select Yes.
When you are asked if you want to connect automatically when you need to enter the system, you can choose Yes.
Finally, you will be asked if you want to establish a connection immediately.
When you complete these steps, you should establish a connection and be able to use it.

Manually control connections

When you need to start ADSL connection, you can enter in the terminal:

Pon Dsl-provider

(If the logged-on user is not root.) You should enter "sudo pon dsl-provider")
Disconnect the ADSL connection, you can enter in the terminal:

Poff Dsl-provider

(If the logged-on user is not root.) You should enter "sudo poff dsl-provider")

Problems encountered

If you find the connection is not working properly, try to manually adjust your previous ADSL connection configuration (refer to the previous section). You need to view the log, which you can enter in the terminal:

Plog
