Not long ago, we specially invited the top of the domestic desktop virtualization experts, Huazhong University of Jinhai for the characteristics of desktop virtualization and his research has done a share of experience, especially for the software and hardware platform system requirements and selection of the analysis.


According to the introduction, Professor Jinhai is engaged in the Desktop virtualization Research in 2007, Huazhong University of China undertook the national 973 projects, most of the work is to study how to effectively allow users to use various types of PCs or mobile terminals directly connected to the server's operating system, applications, etc., and user data on the server side, It can then be invoked wherever there is a network.

This project is mainly based on the Xen open source virtualization platform for research and improvement. Jinhai said that after studying the transfer protocols and I/O that optimized Xen desktop virtualization, the results converged on a system called "Clouddesk" and deployed in a midsize enterprise and college. In addition, in the Xen open source community, Hust's research team is also maintaining and submitting the research results code in real time.

With respect to hardware, Jinhai says that because desktop virtualization requires higher I/O and back-end computing performance, they eventually chose the Intel Xeon platform by testing. Because the Intel Xeon 5500 processor (5600 of this year) has Vt-x hardware virtualization technology, the performance of its virtual servers has improved significantly. On the other hand, the I/O aspect of desktop virtualization is also directly supported by virtualization technologies such as the vt-d and network transport aspects of the Intel chipset, which allow them to leverage these system features when software optimization is available.

Jinhai says that a lot of the work on desktop virtualization has come together, called Xen virtual machine Analytics, where interested friends can look at the content.
