When everyone is waiting for Google to launch its own Google Operating System (of course, the premise is that the rumor is true), someone has collected information about the ten existing web operating systems and their functions. Unfortunately, most of them seem incomplete and not fully available yet, but it is true that there are still many wonderful functions.
Many people may think that there is basically no webpage operating system, which is surprising. At present, there are more than 10 WebOS with complete functions, and many will be announced soon or will soon end the beta stage.
But what exactly is webOS? Here we provide a simple definition: WebOS is a virtual operating system running in a web browser. More precisely, WebOS is an application running in a web browser.ProgramTogether, this application is used to simulate, replace or largely supplement the desktop operating system environment.
Let's take a look at the true colors of these ten WebOS. However, before you begin, please remember that many of these services are not yet mature enough. Now, they are more like "First Impressions" rather than comments of a fully functional product. (The following products are listed alphabetically)
1. craythur
Craythur running interface
Craythur is a brand new WebOS, which focuses on the appearance, and its appearance is indeed good. It provides a well-selected desktop background and a transparent window border similar to Vista's Aero effects. However, the applications are more like Alpha than beta. Because craythur is obviously in its initial stage, it hopes to bring a qualitative leap to users in a few months.
2. Define toptwo
System running interface
Desktoptwo is a WebOS with complete flash-based functions, but must be registered before trial. Most of these services are provided in the form of flash, and there are many excellent products. Desktoptwo applications are a little slow to use, but it does not damage the user experience of these services. In addition, javastoptwo is opened in the pop-up window, which may cause annoyance to some users.
In terms of functions, javastoptwo provides widgets for search, clock, and system information, as well as the Dock bar, MP3 player, RSS reader, instant messaging tool, OpenOffice, HTML editor, notebook and several other small programs. It is disappointing that many of these programs are opened in pop-up windows. In addition, if you close the login toptwo window and then log on again, some previous settings will be cleared. The good news is that those files, such as those saved to the desktop, or feeds that have been added to the RSS reader, can still be saved during the session. In general, javastoptwo is doing well in many aspects, but it still needs to handle some availability and interface problems to become a truly available WebOS.
3. eyeos
System running interface
The implementation method of the eyeos site is slightly different. You need to download the eyeos Server File and install it on your Web server. You can also try a demo on the free public server eyeos.info. It also provides free accounts for users who do not want to install their own servers. This public server is built through donation, so if you really like this WebOS, you can lend a helping hand.
Eyeos features are complete and there are not many bugs, but it is a little slow and tasteless. It provides basic calendars, calculators, address books, RSS readers, simple word processors, File Upload programs, and several other programs, but these programs have very limited functions, it is more like a test application than a daily tool. In addition, some options are ineffective, such as changing the wallpaper function.
Although eyeos looks ambitious, it does not provide more things than craythur. Its interface is okay and running is fine, but the provided applications are not very attractive to users.
4. Glide
Special Interface
After the registration was closed for a period of time, glide was launched again in December 19. In addition to free registration, glide also launched family standard and Family Premium programs (the latter costs $149.95 per year ). During the registration process, glide also requires the user to verify through SMS messages. Glide is currently the only WebOS with confidence to charge for the services it provides.
Glide is also based on flash, and it does not imitate windows or other similar desktop environments, instead it provides a unique interface. It allows users to upload up to 1 GB of files. Users can read RSS feeds, manage bookmarks, appointments, chats, create documents, and browse images. Glide is well designed, but some aspects are similar to javastoptwo. First, some applications open in a pop-up window. It does not seem necessary. In addition, some of these applications are not beautified like other interfaces. Some applications, such as calendar, cannot run normally at all. An error occurs when you click it.
These are all small errors, but the cumulative quantity is still relatively large. In addition, once some programs on the desktop are closed, it is difficult to open them again, because it is difficult to find the option to open. Although glide has worked hard in some ways and has done well, it still has a long way to go.
5. goowy
Best rated products
Goowy is also a WebOS Based on flash, but unexpectedly there is no negative impact caused by flash. It has a lot of well-written and easy-to-use applications, although it is not fast, but not too slow, all tasks are completed in the same window, a toolbar like a desktop operating system is also provided.
It provides basic file upload programs, email programs, RSS readers, instant messaging tools, bookmarks, calendars and contacts. All these applications are well-developed, making goowy far more available than other competitors.
Goowy is very easy to use and has a nice interface. It has many applications and few bugs. It is the WebOS most recommended.
6. orca
The system is unclear due to a bug.
Orca provides a wide range of applications: Media Player, zoho office set, web browser, calendar, RSS reader, notebook, file manager, and several games. Although there are still some bugs, all provided applications can be used normally.
It was learned from orca developers that they are developing a new version that supports browsers other than IE. They also disclosed information about orczilla, which is a "Linux version that can be started (or installed) from a CD) and then directly go to the browser and open the orca desktop ". This makes orca step forward to actual products.
7. purefect
It does not seem like Windows
Purefect is still in the early stage of development, but it has already been well known. It is committed to completely imitating the Windows environment, meticulous icons are also imitated. It provides only a few applications, such as file browsers, memory games, and calculators. Although it works normally, there are still many bugs (a user can even access other users' files through a file browser ). At present, it is not quite available, or it will make great progress in a few months.
8. ssoe
Low completion
Ssoe seems to be a long-term project. The author also admitted that the ssoe kernel is only about 10% completed at present, and ssoe currently provides a relatively stable and updated but not so stable version for use.
The same is true. ssoe is more like a technical demo than a product for use. Because 80% of ssoe programs are not available yet, the rating is not available for the time being.
9. xindesk
Xindesk has no actual products
Xindesk is the only product with no demo or alpha version among the ten WebOS introduced this time. However, you can obtain interesting information about this service from the author's blog.
"The core of xindesk is WebOS, which provides applications that can open and save standard office formats. This WebOS is an open platform, just like Windows and Mac OS, which means anyone can develop applications for it. Any xindesk application can be installed on any version of Windows ."
Interested readers can browse more images on the xindesk blog.
10. youos
Excellent programs provided
Youos provides many useful applications, such as an excellent chat client, IM software, file browser, and RSS reader. The response speed of these programs is relatively fast, but there are some small problems, such as scaling the RSS reader to an hour is not smooth.
Youos is slightly inadequate in design. It's okay to use Windows and applications, but the interface is not beautiful. Although it will not affect the function, it will reduce the user experience.
After a brief introduction, you may have some knowledge about the current development of WebOS. The development of WebOS is still in its infancy. It is easier to determine the product's functions. As for the product's best coding method, it is hard to draw a conclusion when the framework used is more robust. The above 10 products provide official connections.
