Recipients, including users, resources, contacts, and groups, are any mail-enabled objects in the Active Directory directory service that Microsoft Exchange can pass or route messages to. To enable recipients to send or receive e-mail messages, the recipient must have an e-mail address. e-mail address policies generate primary e-mail addresses and secondary e-mail addresses for recipients so that they can receive and send e-mail messages.
By default, Exchange contains e-mail address policies that apply to all mail-enabled users. This default policy designates the recipient's alias as the local part of the e-mail address and uses the default accepted domain. The local part of the e-mail address is the name that appears before the symbol (@). However, you can change how e-mail addresses are displayed. For example, you can specify that the address is displayed as FirstName. lastname@contoso. com.
In addition, if you want to specify a different e-mail address for all recipients or some recipients, you can modify the default policy or create additional policies. For example, David Hamilton's user mailbox can receive e-mails sent to [email protected] and [email protected].
