Over and over again the taste of Xunzi's "an exhortation", I understand why the CMMI model more and more widely recognized and applied, and so many of the world's first-rank companies even in their own mature system, still using CMMI to further improve their process capabilities. Since CMMI is the best practice of process improvement for the industry's leading companies that have been collected and collated by SEI, the experience of others can greatly shorten our time to maturity.
But why are many companies not getting the real benefits from CMMI improvements? I asked myself. What CMMI can bring to us is just some good experience of others. If so, why are some of the educators in the educational circles constantly reflecting on: "Education should not just take yesterday's textbooks, teach today's students, to face tomorrow's world." "Education is to let learners learn the method of learning" and "thinking method." CMMI is also a summary of yesterday's industry best practices, we have to teach these CMMI practices to today's managers and employees, then they can cope with the ever-changing world.
