Evolved Universal Terrestrial Radio Access Network (E-utran);

Architecture description (Release)

1 scope included in this specification

The present document describes the overall architecture of the E-utran, including internal interfaces and assumptions on t He radio, S1 and X2 interfaces.

This specification describes the overall architecture of the E-utran, including the internal interface, the S1/X2 interface

3 Definitions and abbreviations definitions and abbreviations 4 General Principles Fundamentals

The general principles guiding the definition of E-utran architecture as well as the E-utran interfaces is the following:

Some of the following fundamentals guide the definition of the E-utran architecture and the E-utran interface:

-Logical separation of signalling and data transport networks.

-Logical separation of signaling and data transmission networks

-E-utran and EPC functions is fully separated from transport functions. Addressing scheme used in E-utran and EPC shall not being tied to the addressing schemes of transport functions. The fact that some e-utran or EPCs functions reside in the same equipment as some transport functions does don't make the TRA Nsport functions part of the E-utran or the the EPC.

-The E-utran and EPC functions are completely separated by the transfer function. The addressing mechanism used on E-utran and EPC should not be associated with the addressing mechanism of the transport function. In fact, however, some e-utran or EPC functions exist on the same device, so some transfer functions do not differentiate between the E-utran or EPC transfer functions.

-Mobility for RRC connection are fully controlled by the E-utran.

-The mobility of the RRC connection is all controlled by the E-utran

-when defining the E-utran interfaces the following principles were followed:

-When defining the E-utran interface, some of the following specifications should follow:

    • The functional division across the interfaces shall has as few options as possible;
    • Functional partitioning on interfaces should have as few choices as possible
    • Interfaces should is based on a logical model of the entity controlled through this interface;
    • The interface should be based on the logical model of the entity and used to control the entity or interface based on the logical model of the entities controlled by the interface.
    • One physical network element can implement multiple logical nodes.
    • A physical network unit can implement multiple logical nodes
5 General architecture Overall Architecture 5.1 general

The protocols over Uu and S1 interfaces is divided into the structures:

The protocols in UU and S1 interfaces are divided into two parts:

-User plane Protocols Subscriber interface protocol
These is the protocols implementing the actual E-rab service, i.e. carrying user data through the access stratum.

They are the protocols used to implement the actual E-rab service, for example, the access layer carries user data

-Control plane Protocols interface protocol
These is the protocols for controlling the e-rabs and the connection between the UE and the network from different aspect s (including requesting the service, controlling different transmission resources, handover etc). Also a mechanism for transparent transfer of the NAS messages is included.

They are the protocols used to control the e-rab and the different aspects between the UE and the network (including requesting services, controlling different transport resources, switching, etc.) and also including the transmission mechanism of the NAS messages.
