3G Base station called NodeB (NB), 4G base station called enb,5g Base Station what is called.

3GPP finally to the 5G base station took a name, called GNB.

Although we never understand why 3G base station is called NB, we know at least that ENB "E" stands for "evolved". However, this time the 3GPP came more cold, not only did not explain why the 5G base station called GNB, not even explain what "G" means.

3GPP is just an understatement of the tape: ran3#92 meeting unanimously agreed to the 5G base station named GNB.

Do you need a reason to take a name?

Brother.

5G is like a newborn baby, the name is good, and then is constantly feeding, slowly grow up. Recently, 3GPP breastfeeding work is very busy, and 5G, like our baby in the middle of a day, a kind of growth, changes very much.

Therefore, it is necessary to have a new understanding of the 5G this baby (no, called brother).

Integrate some of the recent 5G content, not very full, simple to understand.

First of all, 5G wireless access is called New Radio, referred to as NR, the full name new Radio access Technology in 3GPP, this article is called 5G-NR.

5G-NR Scenarios and KPIs

See TR 38.913 "Study on Scenarios and Requirements for Next Generation Access Technologies"

The 5G defines three main scenarios:

EMBB (Enhanced mobile broadband), enhanced mobile broadband

MMTC (Massive Machine Type Communications), large scale internet of things

URLLC (ultra-reliable and Latency Communications), low Singo reliable connection

Note that the three terms embb, MMTC and URLLC will be widely used in future communications and must be loaded with X.

The three main scenarios correspond to the spectrum distribution:

(5G spectrum is divided into 6GHz below and 6GHz above two types)

Embb:6ghz below and above 6GHz band

Mmtc:6ghz The following frequency bands

Urllc:6ghz The following frequency bands

Specific 5G applications include: Smart city, smart home/architecture, 3d/high-definition video, augmented reality, mission-critical applications, industrial automation, automatic driving, cloud access, and more.

Corresponding to network deployments, the following deployment scenarios are primarily available:

• Indoor scene: High volume of indoor traffic and high user density.

• Dense urban areas: dense urban high flow and high user density area (macro station and small base station joint coverage, or macro station alone coverage)

• Rural areas: large-area continuous coverage of rural areas (need to focus on high-speed cars)

• Urban Macro Station: continuous coverage of urban areas

• High-speed scene: Continuous coverage of high-speed rail and bullet trains

• Ultra-Remote coverage scenario: basic communications services for low ARPU and sparsely populated areas, including networking of objects deployed along the wilderness and highways.

• Urban large-scale connection coverage scene: mainly for urban mass network to achieve continuous coverage

• Highway or expressway scenario: coverage for high-speed car networking

• Car Networking urban Grid scene: Dense urban vehicle networking

About 5G-NR KPIs (yes, 5G-NR also have KPIs):

• Control plane delay from state to state of data transmission: 10ms

URLLC user face delay: 0.5ms

EMBB user face delay: 4ms

• Non-frequent small data Bao Shiyan: 10s

• Mobility Interruption Time: 0ms

• Non-frequency Fasse networking Small packet Traffic Mode battery life: 15

• Mobility Range: 0km/h to 500km/h

• Wireless access network should have the ability to minimize return and signaling load

LTE Enb->elte Enb->nr GNB

Well, take a break, and now it's time to spit 3GPP name.

We know that 3GPP REL-10/11/12 is called lte-advanced, is the 4g+ we usually talk about. Then, REL-13/14 came, 3GPP called Lte-a Pro, which we usually call 4.5G.

Anyway is not called 4g+ or 4.5G, brother play is high cold, uncommon.

To the Rel-15, finally wait until a very pleasing to the name of the--elte.

However, Elte's name has not been identified, but it has frequently appeared in recent 3GPP discussions and is likely to become the new name for Rel-15.

Why is it called Elte. Rel-15 will define the first phase of the 5G standard, and elte means that LTE is evolving smoothly toward 5G.

In the era of 4G and 5G, there will be two kinds of wireless access and core network in 5G.

Wireless access: Elte and Nr.

Core network: 4G core network EPC and 5G core network.

The 5G core network is called next Generation core (NGCN).

In the first phase of 5G, Elte and NR will be used and shared with the 4G core network EPC. Then, as the network slowly evolves, NR will be plugged into its own core network NGCN, which could occur in the second phase of 5G.

To illustrate this issue, refer to At&t's proposal for a 5G deployment plan.

Step One: 5G Phase I (initial introduction of NR)

NR and LTE are shared with EPC for dual connection. Implement the hosting aggregation in ran.

Step two: 5G first stage

Ran will support LTE, Elte and NR, and can be plugged into both EPC and NGCN.

Step three: 5G phase two

The NGCN function is further enhanced, highlighting the main body status and coexisting with the PEC.

Notice the difference between the red dashed line and the blue dotted line above, the red dotted line representing the 4G control surface, and the blue dotted line representing the NGCN control surface. This means that the first phase of the 5G dual connection will be using LTE RRC as a control surface.

Incidentally, at the recent RAN3 meeting, the camp focused on the user side of the discussion. The separation of user and control surfaces is expected to be the focus of the next meeting.

So, there are now three kinds of wireless access, respectively: LTE, Elte and NR, the corresponding three kinds of wireless base stations are called: LTE ENB, Elte ENB and Nr GNB.

The elder brother is born.

However, the name Ox x does not necessarily really cow X, because the first stage of 5G is a hybrid network, so sometimes GNB can only play a supporting role.

Ox not ox x to see the deployment scenario for the 5G network Cn-ran connection, divided into three types:

LTE ENB as the main base station

NR GNB as the main base station

Elte eNB as the main base station

When the LTE ENB as the main base station, GNB is only a supporting role, but also need to bide their time:

At this point, ENB and GNB connect Epc,enb and GNB's user faces through an EPC implementation aggregation. The solution is to add the hardware board to the existing ENB, smooth upgrade, and hold the site (I guess).

When NR GNB as the main base station, it is the time for the brother and Ox X to finally find the Organization (tears):

There are two kinds of situations:

GNB Straight to NGCN, no longer bird LTE ENB

• The LTE eNB as a little brother, let him also taste the taste of extras.

When Elte eNB as the primary base station, it is the same as the above:

Of course, GNB may also recruit more younger brothers, such as WLANs.

Okay, here's the end of this article.

Hello, GNB. A new era is coming, the age of the elder brother.
