61, NT network of diskless workstation remote Landing

The remote Boot service is a feature of Windows NT server that enables remote workstations to start MS-DOS and Windows using software on the server's hard disk. The use of remote boot services can increase network security and provide greater control to network system administrators, with the advantages of easily centralizing software upgrades and reducing the cost of purchasing and maintaining workstations. At present, in the NT network data is not related to the template configuration file does not exist in the General network card remote boot configuration data, we are very concerned about how to solve its configuration problem.
The following author takes the Chinese NT Server 4.0 as an example to introduce the remote start-up installation process of a general NIC (diskless) Workstation in NT networks for your reference. Hot Network

First, in the NT Server network "protocol" to add DLC Communication protocol and NetBEUI communication protocol, because the remote Start service to request DLC Communication protocol and NetBEUI communication protocol; Add a remote boot service to the network's services.
Second, in the network "services" to start the remote boot service, run the "Remote Boot manager", first get (diskless) workstation network card ID number, and then set up profile files and remote boot database records, this is the general network card configuration difficulties. The process is as follows:
1) Take the network card ID number of the remote workstationHot Network
A) Open the remote workstation. The workstation does not actually start, but the NIC with the Boot-rom sends a startup request to the server.
(B) On the View menu of the remote boot Manager on the server side, click Refresh. At this time, the remote workstation's network card record will appear, this network card record includes the network card ID number of the remote workstation that is started. If this NIC is not a specified network card in the template file, then there will be an unspecified identification prompt after the network card number, which needs to be manually set. Take the Accton en166x network card As an example, this card is compatible with NE2000 card and can be configured according to NE2000 card. The process is as follows:
① Copy the clients\ rpl\ Update directory on the NT Server CD to the hard disk, modify the NE200CPT.RPL file in the directory, and change ne2000-compatible ID number 004033 to Accton ID number 0000E8 of the EN166X network card;
② in a DOS window, type rplcmd <NE200CPT.RPL to generate a new network card database. When you go back to the remote boot manager, you can see that the NIC ID has changed to NE2000 compatible;
2) Establish (diskless) Workstation profile files
In remote boot Manager, open the Configuration menu, click Check Configuration to check the available operating systems for the remote boot workstation, and if you rplfiles\binfiles\dos622 the DOS622 system files in the Rpl\ directory, in the new configuration file The options for DOS622 appear in the Configuration box of the dialog box, and when you click Fix Security, you will overwrite the permissions in the \system root\rpl directory, create an account for the remote boot workstation, create a rpluser local account, and update the remote boot workstation Lanman.ini The domain item in the file to match the domain/workgroup of the server itself. Then, on the Remote boot menu, click New Profile, and the dialog box is shown in Figure 1. In the Profile Name box, type the profile name, and in the Configure box, select a configuration that is consistent with your network adapter and the specified operating system. For example 3Com EtherLink III network card on the choice of DOS6.22 3Com EtherLink III Accton en166x network card to choose DOS6.22 Novell NE2000.
3 Establish a remote boot database record for the workstation
In remote boot manager, select a network card record, and on the Remote boot menu, click Convert Adapter.
A in the Workstation Name box, type the workstation name, and use that name to create an NT user account for the remote workstation.
B in the Description box, type the workstation description. The description provided by the network adapter itself is already in the box.
(C) Select one of the two types of configurations. If this workstation shares the configuration file with other workstations, select "Share", or "personal" if this workstation must use a personal copy of the profile to customize the workstation environment.
D) in the Workstation in configuration file box, select a profile for the workstation.
E) Click the "Add" button.Hot Network
When the remote workstation is opened, the remote workstation can be booted from the NT server to the MS-DOS state, and the operating system command file directory on the remote workstation is: C: DOS, which corresponds to the directory \ rpl\rplfiles\bitfile\dos622 on the server. Remote (diskless) workstations can be booted to MS-DOS status through NT servers, followed by further software installation, such as WINDOWS31,WINDOWS95 and its application sharing, not much.
