A beginner's path to rhce

Recently, the younger brother took the red hat rhce Certification Examination and obtained the rhce certificate. I have always wanted to write an article about rhce for two reasons: first, most of the articles on the Internet about rhce examination and certification are older, all for the old version of rhce examination; second, I would like to share with you my experiences and experiences on rhce. 1. Knowledge about rhce certification exams
The new version of rhce certification test is based on rhel5 (Red Hat Enterprise Edition Linux 5). All the tests are for trial use (all on-board operations, without any written test content ). Time: Am-Am (2 and a half hours); PM-am (3 hours), in fact, the examiner with a red hat can choose the Test start time based on the actual situation, but they will guarantee the test time (2 and a half in the morning and 3 hours in the afternoon ). The test room is not fixed, and each phase is not necessarily in the same place. Exam question count: 10 questions in the morning, divided into rhct and rhce parts in the afternoon, each part is about 8 questions, I can't remember the specifics, in the afternoon, the last three questions are three or two, that is, three questions. You can only do two questions. Of course, you 'd better do both. Pass requirements: you must get 80 points in the morning, that is, the first eight questions must be completely correct or reach 60 points. You can make the next two wrong questions to meet the 80 points required in the morning, the first four questions in the eight questions should be completed within one hour. Otherwise, the chance of obtaining the certificate will be lost, but you can take the test, but you will not be able to get the certificate. If it passes in the morning, the rhct and rhce parts in the afternoon require that each part reach 70% to get the rhce certificate. If only the rhct part reaches 70 points, you can only get the rhct certificate (in fact, the rhce certification exam includes the rhct Certification Exam ). Learning fee: slightly (you can check it online ). Learning path: It is generally learned through a special rhce training class, which is also recommended to beginners. Certification materials: the official English teaching materials are used in three editions: rh033 (basic), rh1_( system operation management), and rh253 (Network Service Management ).

Ii. rhce Examination

Exam process:
On a Sunday that is not Sunday, I brought my ID card, pen, and paper. Five or six people are going to take the rhce certification test. Before the test starts, the examiner will explain the test-related requirements, including the time of the test, and raise his hand to the examiner during the test. My younger brother spent all his tests in the morning. The first four questions should be completed within one hour. The most challenging thing is that when the time is almost one hour, one of my four questions cannot be completed. Finally, in the last one second, when the examiner was preparing to verify the first four questions, the younger brother finally completed. Finally, I am relieved that the following questions can be safely answered. At this time, there were only three people left in the first round, and the first four questions of the others had been closed (but they could also take the afternoon exam, but they could not get the certificate ). Among the three of us, except me, the two are prawn-level figures. Basically, the questions in the morning have been settled within one hour of the test. Next, I want to finish the four questions (I didn't plan to do the last two wrong questions, but I got 80 points in the morning, so I am not so nervous, but there is still a problem with the four questions (Note: You think the morning test is complete, you can raise your hand to the examiner at any time to stick to it, if there is a problem with the question, he will tell you). In the afternoon, because of the passing of the morning, I was not so nervous in the afternoon, but I was very careful and serious about the problem, because the examiner did not need to perform the examination in the afternoon. Therefore, if you feel that you have done well, You can instruct the examiner to leave the test room. Because the younger brother's English is not very good, he looks at the question carefully and does every question. Without knowing it, the time is approaching. I just checked some questions, there is not enough time to check all the questions. In this way, my rhce test is complete. At that time, I felt that the exam in the afternoon was good. When I leave, I need to take the bus and go to a couple of friends for damage.

Test experience:
In fact, the morning is very basic, so you don't have to be too nervous during the exam. Being nervous can only be counterproductive. In fact, it depends on what you think. If you think you have the ability, you can win all 10 questions. You can also choose to win the first 8 questions, or, if you have not answered any of the first eight questions correctly, you can only perform the following two wrong questions. Of course, this requires the examiner to install another wrong system. It should be noted that when you have a problem, you must raise your hand to the examiner. Don't wait until it is all too late. If your machine is really faulty, if it is not your mistake, the examiner will give you a reasonable arrangement. Therefore, you must ask the examiner if you have any questions during the morning exam.

In the afternoon, due to the large number of questions in the afternoon, do not waste too much time on one of your questions. You can do the following questions, that is to say, it is wise to first solve your questions and then solve those questions you don't know. Make sure that all your operations can still be implemented after the system is restarted. For example, some of your network services and firewalls. Therefore, if you have time, it is best to restart the machine after you finish the question, view these items, and test your services with the testing machine given during the examination.

During the morning and afternoon exams, questions are printed on paper and all are in English. Therefore, I suggest you carefully read the questions, each question must be completed according to the requirements of the question. This is important. (For example, iptables requirements and SELinux)

Iii. rhce Learning
Basically, the younger brother has no Linux Foundation. He only saw most of the Linux Private food basics of laruence before attending rhce training. Next, let's talk about the experience, methods, and processes of the younger brother learning rhce. At the beginning of the rhce course, I talked about the rh033 course. Of course, it was all basic Linux commands, but some knowledge points still gave me a headache. In addition, the teaching materials are in English, and the head is even more painful. (The younger brother's English is too bad and his professional vocabulary is good. So I open a word bully every day and I will check the words I don't know .) At that time, my learning environment was to use virtual machines on Windows to build a classroom learning environment. We recommend Windows XP + vmvare + appropriate hardware (the memory must be large enough, because we need to open multiple virtual machines (one server, at least one PC), the benefits of doing so for beginners are: in Windows, we can better check related materials and solve problems easily. For those with conditions and foundations, you can install it. At the beginning, the rh033 course was still quite the same. When it came to rhsag, some concepts were unclear or unclear, such as raid, quota, and LVM. This is even more obvious when rh253 arrives. What DNS, mail, and so on make your head more painful. Therefore, I feel that I am not doing well after the 13-day rhce course. If I take this exam immediately, I will not be able to pass it, so I decided to take the next exam. During this period, I only attended classes on weekends. I followed the teacher to perform experiments during the class. I went back to the lab and looked at the theoretical knowledge to perform operations on virtual machines. However, at this time, I am confused. The rhce teaching materials are in English, and training materials like this are similar to the PPT situation. It is impossible to explain each part of the theory in detail, therefore, even if I have spent a lot of time reading books, I may not be able to understand the theoretical knowledge I need, I don't have that much time to look up words to understand textbooks. As a result, I decided to take Chinese teaching materials as the main material and use the official rhce English teaching materials as the outline to clarify the knowledge of the entire rhce course. I have time to read more English textbooks. So what are the Chinese textbooks? I remember the Bird brother I mentioned before. He is famous, therefore, I decided to give priority to Chinese characters by referring to the Linux basic and server articles of laruence. (You can find them online, buy books, or go to laruence's website to view them online, or download all of his offline documents .), First, lay a solid foundation on the theoretical basis and related commands of various Linux services. During the course of study, I went to the Internet to search for problems and downloaded a large number of Linux-related materials, solve the problem first (sometimes it may take 2-3 days to solve the problem, although hard, but I am still very happy), including reference to various materials (including laruence, I downloaded a large number of Linux materials, English teaching materials, and materials on the official RedHat website.) I asked my training teacher for help if I was not sure.

First, I created a server and 1-3 clients in the virtual machine to simulate the training and test lab environments. The server opened various services required by the labs, such as DNS, DHCP, NIS, DHCP + tftp + NFS implements PXE and so on. In fact, some services do not need to be mastered, but because you need to simulate this real environment, there is no way to make this service on your own. In fact, this is definitely a good thing for you! (Obviously, you have to spend more time and energy on this, but you have gained more knowledge)

Next, I started to do the exercises after rhbench and rh253. it was slow to understand the question at the beginning. Because some theoretical knowledge is not solid enough, I first understood the question, in a variety of ways, words are not found in English. If the theory is not good, you can refer to various resource documents. As long as the resources that can be used, of course, at the beginning, I also started to practice the answers in the teaching materials. When rh253 has all the exercises (and most of them, I don't think it is important) after I have done it all, I feel a lot better and can understand a lot. But there are still some confusing points (knowledge points ). Now let's put it down and start to do the exercises on rhsag. After a while, I finally did it again, and there were a few confusing points. Then I went back to the rh253 exercise and found that my memory was too bad and I forgot something very quickly. No way, continue to learn, and then do it. In this way, when I did the exercises after the rh133 and rh253 books three times, I began to realize that I couldn't follow the answers to answer the questions. I should leave the answers, I just read the question to do the question. I started to do what I said. When I did this, I realized that I was too dependent on the answer and could not do it. I always wanted to see the answer, I must leave the answer and try not to look at the answer. The first, second, and third times, I can leave the answer to answer the question, but I feel that I am not skilled enough, remember that there is not much time for you to check man or something during the exam. You must be very skilled, in addition, it takes a lot of time to solve any problem during the exam. Therefore, you must be familiar with the problem and be proficient in the problem. At this time, the examination date is less than a month away. As a result, I started to work on the rhbench and rh253, which is to install a new rhel5 client, from system installation to what user account operations, raid, LVM, quota, NIS, DNS, mail, web, squid, NFS, FTP, Samba, iptables, etc. All the questions are done, and do what you think is important. In this case, I don't know how many times I have done it. One week before I took the test, I started to pick my own questions to take the test. I selected some questions in the morning and afternoon. The question count is not less than the question count. In this way, I started to simulate my own questions. During the simulation process, I could finish the questions in the morning within less than 1 hour, and in the afternoon I could finish the questions within 1.5 hours. I achieved my expected goal (I expected to set aside at least 0.5 hours for inspection ).

In fact, the learning method is very important. As a matter of fact, you may not say that the question is correct, but you must understand that the question is a better and skillful knowledge, instead of asking you to do the same questions, you won't do it after changing the questions. The rhce test is so flexible that it actually focuses on the breadth of knowledge, and its depth is not so deep. You can write a book by taking out a certain knowledge point. So when I first learned this, I realized this. I saw laruence (note that I should refer to the documents of laruence. Some of the knowledge is old or not the corresponding version, or the implementation method is different. This is also a reference to other materials. I can't take it as an example. I have to digest and understand it as my own knowledge.) To broaden the breadth of my Linux knowledge, then, I made the questions in the book to gradually grasp the necessary depth. After I did not know how many times of questions, I found myself bound to a fixed and small scope. So after I became familiar with these questions, I decided, expand the breadth and depth of your Linux knowledge to prepare for the test. Finally, the examination date is reached.

Iv. rhce experience
1. Recognize your purpose. rhce is very difficult for beginners, so I do not recommend that you apply for rhce if you are not ready. Because of the passing rate and high flexibility, I have never met anyone who is very good at Linux. Therefore, make it clear that your purpose is to engage in Linux work, especially for Linux network and system management, because rhce is actually similar to MCSE of MS, system Management and network services. Therefore, if you just want to get a rhce certificate instead of engaging in Linux work or other ambiguous purposes, it is highly risky to test rhce.

2. Obviously, we want to take this rhce certification exam to learn about Linux, but we should not study a specific technology too well. After all, the exam has its scope and limitations. Therefore, you must make sure that your learning method is correct. Otherwise, you are doomed to fail at the beginning.

3. If you recognize your goals, you have to work hard. rhce is not as simple as Zhang paper. It is proportional to your efforts. Of course, you still need some luck.

4. What does rhce mean, but not all? It just opens the door for you to learn about RedHat Linux. It is a basic concept. There is still a long way to learn.
