Microsoft has long denied that the Linux system is a very effective system and has been fighting against the Linux system for many years. However, Microsoft has recently changed its tactics and tried to make it more open, perhaps just to appease the European Commission.
Today, Microsoft announced a new data center management tool and admitted that some companies may run non-Windows servers. The Management Console software "System Center Operations Manager 2007 Cross Platform Extensions" officially announced by Microsoft will support two Linux operating systems (Red Hat and SUSE) and two Unix operating systems (HP-UX and SUN Solaris ).
For Microsoft, this may be a new strategy in the Linux war. Therefore, if Microsoft cannot directly defeat Linux, it may use other methods. Although HP's OpenView, Tivoli, and BMC have implemented similar functions, Microsoft can still succeed at a price and ease of use.
Microsoft's new data center management software supports open standards such as web services, management, and OpenPegasus. In addition, Microsoft also announced the new virtualization management software "System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2008", which allows IT managers to control Virtual machines running on VMWare.
