Compared with the bitter and difficult partition operation in DOS environment. In Windows XP, the use of graphical interface and personalized operation, the hard disk can be more efficient and flexible partition operations. In addition to this, using Windows XP's powerful disk partition management feature, you can also enhance the reasonable use of disk partitions and effectively improve disk read and write speed.
1. Partition and format the hard drive in one minute
Right-click on "My Computer" and select "Manage" command. In the Computer Management window that opens, expand Computer Management → storage → disk management. You can then see the partition of the current hard disk in the right pane.
Right-click on unassigned disk space and select new Disk Partition command. In the Pop-up Disk Partition wizard window, select the partition type "Extended Partition", click "Next", enter the capacity size of the new partition, then set the partition's disk file format, and check the "unformatted" item, and finally click the "Finish" button to complete the partition operation. Then open "My Computer", right click New Partition, select the "format" command, use the quick format, you can in one minute, complete the partition to the format of all operations.
2. Fold and Merge disk partitions
If a partition on your hard disk is too large, you can split it into two partitions. First, save all the files in the partition to a different partition. Then right click on the partition in Disk Management and select "Delete logical Partition" command. After confirmation completes the partition deletion, the partition is recognized as "Unassigned" disk space in the list.
After that, on the unassigned disk space, use the new Partition command to set the space size of the new partition, and format the newly created two partitions.
When you need to merge two partitions, you can save all the data and use the delete logical partition command to obtain two blank unassigned partitions. Then select the Unassigned section, right-click and select New Disk Partition command to complete the merge of the partitions.
3. Compressed partitions increase disk space
If a disk partition is tense, and the data in that partition is not read frequently, you can compress the partition to "increase" the space available for use. Because compressed partitions must be in the NTFS disk format, for partitions that use FAT32 disk format, you can convert the partition to NTFS disk format by executing the Convert Letter/fs:ntfs command in the command Line prompt window. Then, right click on the partition you want to compress, and select the Properties command. Select the General tab in the Open window and check the "Compress drive to save disk space" item. After you close the window, the system will perform a disk compression operation, and when you are done, you will find that the partition's remaining space is increased.
4. Under the command line for the partition expansion
If there is not enough space left in a partition, you can increase the available space by using partition expansion. In the command Prompt window, execute the "Diskpart" command to start the command-line Disk Management tool. The list of current system partitions can then be displayed by executing the "list Partition" command. If you want to delete the 3rd partition and expand it for the 2nd partition, you can execute the command "Select parttition 3" so that the third partition has the Focus property and then delete Partition to remove the 3rd partition.
Then execute the Select Partition 2 command so that the 2nd partition has the Focus property, and then the "Extend" command is used to automatically add the previously deleted partition space to the 2nd partition. If the expanded 2nd partition is formatted with an NTFS disk, no data will be lost after the expansion. Finally, the "Exit" command, back to "My Computer" can see the hard disk partition has been expanded.
5. Double lift hard drive transfer speed
If you have two hard drives, with the dynamic volume features in Windows XP, you can greatly increase the speed of hard disk transmission. First, convert all partitions on the two hard disks to NTFS disk format. Next, open the Disk Management window, using the right mouse button to click on both hard drives, select the "Switch to Dynamic Disk" command in the pop-up menu, and convert all two hard drives to dynamic disks. Right-click on the black area after the second hard drive and select New Volume command. In the Open dialog box, click Next, and there are 3 options, select Striped volume. Click Next, and the second hard drive will appear in the "optional" list, and in the following amount of space, enter the space to dominate a single hard disk. Click Next to assign a letter to the established partition. Click "Next" and choose to use the NTFS disk format to quickly format the partition, and then click Finish. The gray area that appears in the partition list of the Disk Management window is the new striped volume.
When you open My computer, you will see the newly created partition, which can achieve nearly twice the data transfer rate when the partition is read. Using the same procedure, the remaining space is newly created as a striped volume, which can be used in disguise to enjoy the high data transmission rate of the disk array.
