A hacker illegally steals 20 million user data from a dating site

Leaked data includes Gmail, Hotmail, and Yahoo Mail

 

A hacker illegally steals the Topface of an online dating website and a database containing 20 million user data.

It is not clear whether the data has been published, but according to some unpublished pages, a person with the name of "Mastermind" claims to have mastered the data.

The leaked data list covers hundreds of domain names worldwide

This person claims that the leaked data content is 100% authentic and valid, while Daniel Ingevaldson, CTO of Easy Solutions, said in a blog on Sunday that the leaked data includes Hotmail, Yahoo, Gmail, and other email addresses.

Easy Solutions is an American company that provides network detection and security protection products on multiple platforms.

According to Ingevaldson, 7 million of the leaked data comes from Hotmail, 2.5 million from Yahoo, and 2.2 million from Gmail.com.

We do not know whether the data can be used to directly log on to the user name and password of the email account, or to log on to the account of the dating website. In addition, it is unclear whether the data is encrypted or plaintext in the database.

The email address is often used as the logon username for an online website. You can log on with a unique password. However, repeated use of the same password is a common practice for many users. The same password can be used to log on to many online accounts.

Ingevaldson also said: "It seems that the data actually covers hundreds of domain names around the world. In addition to the original hacked web pages, hackers and criminals are likely to use stolen accounts for brute-force library, automatic scanning, and harm to multiple websites, including banking, tourism, and email providers ."

More information is expected to be disclosed

According to many of our sources, the data leakage source is Topface, an online dating website containing 90 million users. Headquartered in St. Petersburg, Russia, more than 50% of users are from countries outside of Russia.

We contacted Topface and asked them if they had recently suffered a network attack that could result in such a large volume of data leaks. However, we have not yet received a reply from the company.

Attackers may steal the data without obtaining illegal access permissions. Easy Solutions speculate that attackers may directly obtain user data through phishing emails on website clients.

We cannot contact them through the Easy Solutions online website, but we have tried other interactive communication methods and are waiting for more information to be disclosed.
