A tutorial on the metal grid text effect made by PS for rusting

Introduction:

This tutorial mainly uses Photoshop to make the metal rust text effect, mainly teaches how to use the pattern to fill the font, then uses the alpha channel to make the artistic effect.

First step

First we need to define a point style. Creates a new 100x100 pixel file with a resolution of 300 pixels per inch. Background padding is black. With the ellipse selection tool, set to a fixed size, height and width of 24 pixels. Click anywhere on the canvas and click in the selection box to drag and place the upper-left corner of the canvas.

Fills the selection with white, dragging a horizontal and vertical guide line to the center of the selection. Hold down the SHIFT key and press 4 to move the selection down by 40 pixels. Padding is white. Now move the selection up and to the right 20 pixels, and fill the white again. Next, move the selection down and to the right by 20 pixels and fill white.

Now press the figure below and drag out two guides to the center of the selection. Move the selection up by 40 pixels and then fill the white again. Now select the area between the intersecting guides with the rectangular selection tool, as shown in the following figure. Then execute the edit definition style, named "Holes". You can now close the file. (Figure 01)

Second Step

Create a 1450px high 700px file with a resolution of 300px/inch. Make sure that the color mode is RGB. Select the Horizontal Type tool to enter text. I use the font Arial Black, the size of 116pt. (Figure 02)

Third Step

Now we're going to apply two layers of styles. First apply the stroke (Stroke) style, set as follows: size 10 pixel, position is internal, blending mode is normal. Opacity is 100% and the color is black. Then apply the pattern overlay style (patterns Overlay), set as follows: Blending mode is normal, opacity 100%, style is set to hole, scale is set to 50%. Fourth Step

Hide the background layer, create a new layer on top named "2 Transparent", perform image 〉apply and check Invert ... This action will flatten and reverse the selection of the currently visible layer. (Figure 04

Fifth Step

Hold down CTRL and click on the "2 transparent" layer to load the selection and press CTRL + C to copy it. Enter the channel panel and create a new channel. Press CTRL + V to paste. Then CTRL + D cancels the selection. (Figure 05
