ABBYY Export Results to PDF considerations

When you use ABBYY FineReader Pro for MAC OCR word recognition software to identify a document, you can save the recognized text to a file, and you can send the recognized text in an e-mail message as long as the output format is supported by FineReader. So if you want to export the recognition results to PDF format, what information do you need to be aware of? This article specifically tells you the PDF export parameters.

1. Export mode

? text and pictures only

This mode saves recognized text and pictures, allows full-text search of the page, and the size of the PDF file becomes smaller, and the resulting document may look slightly different from the original document.

Text on a page image

This option saves the background and picture of the original document and places the recognized text on it. Typically, this type of PDF requires more disk space than "text and pictures only". A full-text search of the resulting PDF document is possible. In some cases, the appearance of the resulting document may be slightly different from the original document.

Text under the page image

This option saves the entire page image and places the recognized text under it. Use this option to create a document that can be full-text searchable, and that document looks almost the same as the original document.

? page-only image

This option saves the image on the page exactly. It is almost impossible for users to distinguish between this type of PDF document and the original document, but they cannot search for it.

Note: The PDF export parameter depends on the selected export mode. Therefore, some of the parameters may not be available in some modes.

2. Keep layout

? Keep page numbers, headers, and footers

When this option is selected, you can save the header, footer text, and page numbers. If this option is disabled, the header, footer, and page numbers will not be saved.

? Keep the picture

When this option is selected, you will be able to save the pictures in the recognized text. The image quality and the size of the resulting file depend on the selection made in the image quality panel.

? Use MRC to compress images

When this option is selected, the display quality of text and pictures can be preserved in highly compressed documents. Therefore, the target file will be small high-quality text with pictures.

3. Image quality

The resulting file can be very large if the recognized text contains many pictures, or if you select a mode to save the page image. You can adjust the quality of the output picture to reduce the size of the output file.

? low

Select this option if you want your PDF document to be small. The resolution of page images and pictures will be reduced to a max dpi, which will affect their quality.

? balance

Select this option if you want the file to be small and you want the quality of the page image and picture to be high.

? high

When this option is selected, the page images and pictures remain in their original quality.

4. Paper size

When you export the results to a PDF, you can set the size of the paper used. Select a system-supported paper size from the drop-down list, or select Custom size, and then enter a size that you define.

5. Text Settings

Preserve text and background colors: Select this option to preserve the font color and background when you save a document in PDF format.

6. PDF options

? Making documents compatible with PDF/A

Select this option to create a PDF document that can be full-text searchable, which looks the same as the original document and can be used for archiving.

? Creating outlines

When this option is selected, you can create a PDF document Chapter title directory.

? Enable PDF tagging

When this option is selected, you can add PDF tags to the output PDF document.

In addition to text and illustrations, PDF files can contain information about the structure of the document, such as logical sections, photos, and tables. This information is encoded in PDF notation. PDF documents with PDF tags can be re-loaded to fit a wide range of screen sizes and are also well-displayed on handheld devices.

Important! You cannot create a tagged PDF file if the recognized document contains a Hebrew or Italian-language text.

When this option is selected, fonts can be embedded in a PDF document.
