About Azure's VIP (externally exposed virtual IP) and dip (internal IP used internally)

Azure provides two IP addresses for a virtual machine: one is an externally exposed virtual IP (VIP) and the other is an internal IP (DIP) used internally.

These two IP addresses can be seen in the dashboard of the Azure management portal.

In Azure one subscription, the virtual machines can communicate with each other through the VIP, which is the same as the external connection to the virtual machine over the Internet.

At present, one of the main differences between the VIP and dip is the life cycle and the stability of the IP. Among them, the VIP is relatively stable, only the virtual machine remains active or there are at least 1 virtual machines in the same cloud service in Active state, VIP will remain.

Dip and VIP is different, after the virtual machine stopped, the background will release the resources, and then restart the virtual machine will regain a random available IP address.

In addition, the virtual machine instance may cause a dip change for some other reason, such as cabinet maintenance.
