Dropbox is blocked. the MS cloud computing service is found on the Internet, which is similar to Dropbox. The difference is that the Live Mesh capacity is larger (up to 5 GB) I wanted to write the usage and features of this Live Mesh by myself. however, the cnblogs function for uploading images is not very good. I often encounter problems when uploading images. Either I don't respond, or my browser crashes. If I don't save half of my articles, I will be suspended. stop writing !! Simply turn to an article to share it.

Microsoft Live Mesh

Microsoft Live meshlance Whitney is recommended for utilities.

Microsoft provides some free and effective tools for storing and Synchronizing files and documents over the Internet. Live Mesh, Windows Live sync, and Windows Live SkyDrive are all part of Microsoft's online system. However, there is always confusion about the role of these services and how they are potentially integrated and complementary. As cloud computing has become a hot topic, I will pay special attention to Live Mesh and compare it with sync and SkyDrive.

Live Mesh

Essentially, Live Mesh is a computer in the cloud. Through mesh, you can store files online and access these files from any computer. In addition, you can synchronize local files or folders stored on any PC so that these files can be displayed in Mesh and on any computer contained in the synchronization operation.

To use live mesh, first visit the Live Mesh website and then log on with a Windows Live account. After accepting the terms of the software agreement, you can see the device window, which displays an icon pointing to live desktop and an option to add the device to be synchronized. The first step is to connect to the desktop. Here you can access the "getting started" help information and create a new folder to store the files to be uploaded.

By creating folders, you can use live mesh as a traditional online file storage site. To do this, double-click the "Create folder" icon and name the folder. After opening the new folder, you can upload the file immediately. You can upload files one by browsing or typing the local path of the file. You can also drag and drop multiple files to the folder window to upload multiple files at a time. (Note that you must first install the live desktop plug-in before you can perform the drag-and-drop operation. Currently, the drag-and-drop method is only applicable to Internet Explorer .)

The display mode of folders on the desktop can be the icon mode or the details mode. You can also open the Navigation Pane to display the folder tree on the left and the file list on the right. Media viewer can play specific audio and video content in Live Mesh, such as Ma and WMV files. However, when you double-click most files and documents, you will be prompted to use the corresponding local applications to open them, and these local applications need to be installed locally.

Although Live Mesh can act as a simple online storage site, the biggest use of this tool is the synchronization function. By adding a computer to the Live Mesh Network, You can synchronize folders and files between live desktop and PC. Live Mesh can be used to synchronize documents, browser favorites, and other files across multiple computers.

To build your own network, log on to Live Mesh from the computer that you want to synchronize. In Live Mesh, click the devices tab and select the add device icon. In this case, you must download and install the Live Mesh software. After downloading the software, you will be prompted to add your computer, which will be displayed in the device window. In addition, Live Mesh will be added to Windows's Automatic startup routine, and its icons will be displayed in the system taskbar.

Figure 1You can add multiple PCs to the live mesh to synchronize all these PCs.

Now, you can right-click any folder or file on the Local Computer and select the "add folder to Live Mesh" command. In this case, the object will be uploaded to Live Mesh desktop and synchronized with it. You can add any number of devices as needed, and the same folder on each device will also be synchronized. For example, I synchronize the downloads folder on my PCs with the Live Mesh, so that any file I downloaded to a computer can be used on all computers.

In addition, Live Mesh can act as a convenient remote control program, which is actually an alternative to Remote Desktop Connection. By installing Live Mesh on multiple computers, you can remotely control the other computer from one computer. In addition, you can copy and paste files and content between the host and client.

Windows Live sync

Sync and Live Mesh use the same synchronization concept, but it is a peer-to-peer (P2P) service. The files in sync are not stored in the cloud, but copied and updated from one PC to another. Therefore, if you do not want to store files online but want to synchronize files across multiple PCs, sync is a good choice.

Because sync is a P2P network, there must be at least two PCs in the network at the same time on a regular basis in order to synchronize files. For example, I use sync on my desktop, notebook, and mini notebook to synchronize documents and browser favorites across all three PCs. Usually, I use a desktop and at least one notebook every day, so that the two PCs have the opportunity to synchronize with each other.

Windows Live SkyDrive

SkyDrive is an online storage site. SkyDrive provides up to 250 GB of free space and is an ideal storage location for large files and documents that require online but no synchronization. In addition, SkyDrive will also be used in Microsoft's upcoming Office Web apps. I have introduced this product last month. You can use SkyDrive to save and open office 2010 documents and edit them online.

Do not be discouraged if you do not understand the differences between these services. According to the latest news, Microsoft will soon improve its online services by integrating Live Mesh and sync into a single service called live sync. It is said that with the re-designed live sync, You can synchronize files simultaneously in the cloud and through P2P through a single service.
