At the 2015 IMT-2020 (5G) Summit, Zhang Feng, Chief Engineer of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, delivered a speech to the Conference. He said that 5g, as the main direction for the development of the next generation of broadband wireless mobile communication, has been highly valued by all major countries in the world, and some countries have accelerated their strategic deployment, strive to seize the "high ground" of industry and technology ".

He believes that 5G application scenarios will be extended from the mobile Internet to the Internet of Things. They need a new architecture and wireless interface framework to meet the needs of both the mobile Internet and the Internet of Things, it is both a huge technical challenge and a huge space for innovation to ensure diversified application scenarios.

Zhang Feng pointed out that in the past two years, global 5g research has been accelerating and the concept of 5g has become increasingly clear. The establishment of a global unified standard has become a consensus. The relevant International Standardization Organization has initially made it clear that standard development was officially launched in 2016, some countries have proposed a 5G commercial schedule. enterprises such as Ericsson, Nokia, Huawei, ZTE, and Samsung have developed concept prototypes for some 5g key technologies.

"China attaches great importance to 5g Application and Development, vigorously carries out technology R & D, constantly strengthens international cooperative R & D, and improves the cooperative promotion mechanism, some progress has been made in 5g concepts and technical frameworks, key technology R & D, standards and spectrum research." Zhang Feng said

Regarding the next step of 5g, Zhang Feng also put forward several suggestions:

First, we will further strengthen international cooperation and promote the formation of a globally unified 5g standard. The scale-up development of mobile communication and global roaming feature make it widely recognized in the industry to achieve global standards in 5g. Every country pays great attention to 5g International cooperation and exchange. China should strengthen 5g International cooperation in a more open manner and work with the international industry to jointly promote global 5G development.

Second, increase 5g r & D efforts to break through 5G Technology and Industry weaknesses. It is necessary to strengthen the coordination of relevant major scientific and technological projects, major engineering and scientific research plans, take the IMT-2020 Promotion Group as the platform, play the main role of the enterprise, it supports R & D of 5g key core technologies, especially chips and key components. At the same time, we will build a comprehensive test platform to promote the overall development of the industry and strive to achieve commercial use as soon as possible.

The third is to promote 5g integrated innovation and development. Iot, Industrial Internet, and Internet of vehicles are new areas of 5g support and a new focus of global attention. Efforts should be made to strengthen the research on integration and innovation of 5g with Industrial Internet and IOT, analyze the technical requirements of 5g, and conduct R & D and application demonstration of key technology products. It supports strengthening cooperation between basic telecom enterprises and Internet enterprises and industry users, and actively explores and develops new technologies, industries, new business models, and new models.
