One, Windows 7 hidden Features--Virtual WiFi

WiFi technology has changed the use of many computer users, but over the years, in addition to the speed of the increase in coverage and increase the security, wireless technology has not been much development. Since 2002, however, Microsoft Research has been working on a virtualized WiFi adapter that receives almost all wireless signals through a single hardware. Now, this virtual WiFi technology has been integrated into the Microsoft Windows 7 Network Foundation section.

In essence, virtual WiFi works very much like a virtualized operating system, sharing limited hardware resources transparently for multiple operating systems. Virtual WiFi abbreviation Vwifi is a software layer application for virtual multiple wireless adapters that allows each virtual adapter to connect to a wireless network and ensure that adapters can support multiple wireless LANs at the same time.

The feature is already integrated in Windows 7, according to the Long Zheng Blog. The reason this feature has long been uncovered is that the driver supports problem issues. This feature is not working properly because there are no suitable drivers. It is reported that as long as the WiFi hardware manufacturers recompile their hardware Windows 7 driver, then can provide the virtual WiFi function under Windows 7. However, the prerequisite is that this WLAN driver needs to be certified by Microsoft Windows 7.

Virtual WiFi Working principle

If all goes well, this feature will be automatically exposed in the near future. On Windows 7, the operating system installs a virtual device that directly hosts the wireless network features of the current WiFi network card, which can be displayed as "Wireless network Connection 2" in the Network connection menu, with the device name "Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter (Microsoft Virtual Wireless Mini Adapter) ".

Use virtual WiFi in Windows7

If your Windows7 has installed a wireless NIC driver that supports virtual WiFi, you will see a virtual NIC on the Control Panel network and Internet connection, the device name is: Microsoft virtual WiFi Miniprot Adapter

If your system does not have this function, and your network card is Intel, you can download the latest driver "32-bit, 64-bit", if not, the system's own Third-party driver can also support (such as my usb-tplink,tl-wn321g).

Currently supported devices are:
Atheros Ar5005gs (as in the Tp-link tl-wn651g);
Atheros Ar5007eg with 8.0.0.238 firmware;
Broadcom 4310-series (in many Dell laptops);
D-link airplus G dwl-g510 Wireless PCI Adapter (driver version 3.0.1.0);
Intel 5100/5300 (with latest drivers to Intel ' s site, version 13.0.0.107, 64bit systems only);
Ralink RT2870 (in many 802.11n USB dongles);
Realtek Rtl8187se (with the drivers, came with Windows 7);
Realtek rtl8192u with 1370 (Beta)
So how do you start using this virtual network card? I originally thought that this network card and the real network card is no different, but after choosing the network card to discover that it does not have a connection/disconnect option, only to discover if you only have a single wireless card, then this virtual network card can only be done first Softap, that is, the software virtual AP. This means that you can share the network connection on your computer to realize the function of the router. The operation is as follows:

1: If your computer has Device Manager Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter Before this item is yellow exclamation point, then please press the following command to let annoying exclamation point disappear;

2: If the latest wireless network card driver is installed, the device tube does not appear in the Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter This item, please press the following command to make it Chen now in front of you);

Open a command line window with Administrator privileges (Start-> attachment-> command Prompt, right-click to open with Administrator privileges)
Input: netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=windows7ap Key=password
(SSID and password are customized according to personal preferences)
Start Adapter, enter: netsh wlan start hostednetwork

Finally, select the virtual network adapter (Microsoft Virtual Wifi Miniport Adapter) Right-click Property in the Control Panel Network and Internet network connection to select the Shared Item. Select an already existing network connection to share it with. As pictured.

If you are searching the available network for a wireless card in another machine, you will find an AP that you created earlier, as shown in the following figure.

This is the realization of network sharing. Of course, if you think these command-line operations are difficult, there is a software that can help you fix it: connectify. The software should be a feature that encapsulates the command line above. It is now a beta version.
A bit of a doubt: I saw in Windows 7 adds native Virtual WiFi technology from Microsoft to see that Virtualwifi can be implemented as a real card to connect to multiple networks, I don't know what's going on here. MSDN inside said that you can put this logic adapter is ready-made three kinds: Sta,softap, VSTA. And STA is what I described as the real virtual network card, Softap is the previous implementation of the Ap,vsta for Third-party company-driven development. So these are all to be seen further.

Third, how to turn off virtual WiFi function?

To uninstall this device in Device Manager, you refresh it again and it will appear again, once and for all, as follows:

Turn on the virtual WiFi feature by opening the command Line window with Administrator privileges (starting-> the attachment-> command line prompt, and right-clicking to open with Administrator privileges) and entering Netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=disallow.
