Advanced knowledge: Cisco switch and hub configuration. This article describes how to configure Cisco switches and hubs. No matter what type of switch or hub you want to use, you must follow the following instructions.
◆ Open the hardware packing box and confirm that the content complies with the packaging.
◆ Stack or install the switch on the bracket (correct use of rubber pad or bracket). The distance between the switch and any connected 10BaseT device cannot exceed 100 meters. The temperature must be suitable for the product, and maintain sufficient ventilation.
◆ When selecting a cable, use a straight-through cable on any port without marking "X. X represents the crossover cable. Type 5 cables are suitable for all ports except port 100BaseFX, which requires fiber optic media.
◆ Confirm that the voltage of the power outlet is the same as the voltage specified on the label and connect the power supply.
There is one way to set Cisco switches and hubs. This method illustrates out-of-band management. That is, the management switch from the terminal, which is directly connected to a serial port of the switch. The advantage of this method is that it can work regardless of whether the network connection of the vswitch is available. Follow these steps to set the ciscoft-st2820 switch:
◆ Open the switch and observe the power-on self-check. At this time, the diodes on all ports must turn green and then go out.
◆ Cisco switch and hub: use the correct cable to connect the device to the hub.
◆ VT-100 terminal or simulator connected to EIA/TIA-232 (RS-232) Port, set to 9600bps, 8 Data bit, 1 stop bit, no parity, and login.
◆ Press S to access the SystemConfiguration menu, and modify SwitchingMode by selecting S again ). Then select the number that represents the expected switching mode. This step is required if you do not want to use the fast forwarding and switching mode.
◆ Press X to return to the main menu, and then press N to access the NetworkManagement menu, where you can configure the protocol.
◆ Select I to access IPConfiguration (IP configuration), and then select I again to specify an IP address. When you specify an IP address for the first time, you must restart the vswitch to make the IP address take effect. Select S and G to specify the appropriate subnet mask and defagateway gateway respectively ).
◆ Select X to return to the main menu, select S again to enter the system, select R to restart the switch, and retain the specified parameters.
Cisco switches and hubs: the initial steps for installing fasthub0000c or fasthub0000t are the same as the Enable packaging and verification procedures in the switch installation. You can perform further configuration after you enable the packaging and physically install the hub.
◆ After inserting the hub and verifying the POST, connect the device to the RJ-45 port.
◆ Connect the node to the Console port, and configure the terminal simulation program as 9600 port, 8 data bits, 1 Stop bits, and no parity check.
◆ Log on to the console.
◆ Select the IPConfiguration menu. Set the IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, and DNS server. If you are using another route selection protocol, disable RIP.
◆ Cisco switches and hubs: return to the main menu and exit the console.
