AJAX combined with wiki and trial table

If you are looking for someone to integrate the seemingly incompatible technologies of Wikipedia and trial tables, ask Dan Bricklin, the inventor of visic1c, to operate on them.
In 1979, Bricklin released visic1c, the first trial table software for personal computers. Now, he is about to complete the beta version of wikic1c. Wikic1c is an open source code collaborative job tool hanging on a browser that imitates the test table software. However, wikis allows users to compile global information network data anytime and anywhere.
Wikic1c is a general-purpose tool written in AJAX. It can be executed on a local machine or on a Windows, Mac OS X, Unix, or Linux server. Now there is an alpha test version.

Wikic1c allows users to enter, store, and modify data compiled in table format. Excel, Lotus 1-2-3, and visic1c users are no longer familiar with this format.

Ross Mayfield, chief executive of SocialText, a collaborative software manufacturer, said: "This potential is huge because metaphor is used to familiarize people with quantitative information, because no one in the world is more competent than him."
For a long time, there has always been a problem in the IT field, that is, the trial table application is traditionally only suitable for one person, but all sectors of life are eager to have the trial table function that allows many people to quickly and easily compile materials. Mayfield believes that wikic1c is the answer to this problem.
Of course, wikic1c is not the only way to use the trial table function on the global information network. Another product called Num Sum allows users to build a trial table that can be shared on the global information network, but does not adopt the wikic1c open source code mode. Many people work together to compile the same trial table. Microsoft Excel does not provide it, But Groove, a collaboration tool acquired by Microsoft last year, does. After Office 2007 is released later this year, if enterprise users purchase a high-price Enterprise Edition Office, they can get both Groove and Excel. Windows Sharepoint Services also provides wiki-based trial table editing.
In addition, JotSpot Tracker, which is already in the public testing stage, is also a product similar to wikic1c, allowing everyone to create, publish, and share customized trial tables and other tracking software, can be combined with other applications.
However, in the trial table field, each product will inevitably be compared with Excel, and Bricklin's software solves the problem that has plagued users for many years.
Mayfield said: "With Excel, people have to play e-mail volleyball all day, and transfer it with additional files, which is very inefficient. How do you track the changes in the trial table? If there are more than two people in tabulation, but 40 people in the finance department try to organize digital data together, what should they do ?"
Bricklin's solution is to allow wikic1c users to input materials for modification by others, and to immediately display the changes on the computer screen of each participant.
"You can use it as an editing tool. It is not required except for the managed account provided by an ISP," he said ."
So far, wikic1c has not been fully launched. For example, the function of inputting HTML in the storage box and making dynamic call to network information is not yet provided. But Bricklin says most of the features should be ready by the beta Release in late February.
People familiar with details pointed out that wikic1c is certainly not comparable to Excel in terms of the trial table function, but has been able to process many trial table functions, including presenting data in table format, the calculation formula is applied to the independent storage grid. This is what wikic1c can make it easy for users to use.
However, wikic1c must be widely publicized to realize its potential. In recent years, Bricklin has been busy with consultants, presentations, and operating its own Software company's Software Garden, and may lack marketing experience.
Dennis Howlett, a software developer consultant in the UK, said: "Bricklin has a strong software background, but it is another way to open the market. I think he is amiable and approachable, and has profound thoughts on benefiting the community. But in my experience, such a good person seems not very good at marketing ."
However, Howlett is a favorite of wikic1c. He believes that even if this software cannot replace Excel in the workplace, it can at least meet many different needs.
"Dan (name of Bricklin) makes wikic1c easy to use and meets the needs of simple tasks ." Moreover, because this is an open source code software, it is readily available in accordance with the General Public License (GPL), and enterprises can also purchase according to the traditional authorization. Howlett expects that wikic1c will develop an outstanding and creative application. For example, in an accounting environment, it can provide a transaction report tool not built in Excel.
He said: "From the developer's point of view, wikic1c is a way to solve that problem. Because they can easily put the transaction data into the trial form, saving at least one or two steps ."
Howlett believes that wikic1c allows everyone to jointly compile the materials, and can also be used to remove the barrier between the Finance Department and the sales department, or even turn the enemy into friends.
In any case, Bricklin is excited about the upcoming release of wikic1c. He believes that this software will show the world that the development of productivity tools towards global news networks will be the trend of the future.
He said: "This is not an Excel file, just as the wiki is not a Word. But I think this shows where the trend may go. Just as some web-site email systems may be a subset of client-side email software, there should be a lot of potential for servers ."
