What is prestige (reputation)? How did I get (or lose) it?
Prestige is a rough measure of how the Community trusts you. Get it by making people believe you know what you're talking about. Basic use of the site, including asking a question, answer, suggested edits, does not require any prestige value. But the higher the prestige you get, the more privileges you'll get.
The most basic way to gain prestige is to ask good questions and useful answers. Voting on your proposed (POST) will make you gain or lose your prestige value. Note that a post that has the "community wiki" labeled will not produce any prestige values.
You can earn up to 200 of the prestige value per day from the activities below. (Bounty awards) Gift Award, (accepted answers) accepts the answer , (Association bonuses) The association bonus is not limited by the maximum prestige value per day.

This occurs automatically within all existing stack Exchange sites where you have an account. Occurs when you first log on to another stack exchange site.
You will lose prestige in:

2. The answer was cast a negative vote:-2
3. You have a negative vote on an answer:-1

5. You said there was a raise in one of the 6 spam or attack Tags: 100
All users start with a prestige value of 1 points, and the Prestige value does not fall below 1 pips. Acceptance of your own answers will not gain any prestige. If a user reverses his vote, the relevant prestige will be lost or acquired. Voting reversals that take place as a result of voting cheating also return lost or acquired prestige.
At the high end of the prestige spectrum, there is a little difference between high prestige users and host users. This is intentional. We do not run this site. Community meeting.
