An example of how to replace the hard disk on a server where the system and applications are installed

A new server was configured for a customer a few days ago. The server was configured with 3 1 TB 7200-rpm sas hard disks, and an external Optical Fiber storage device was added to the server. The customer response server is slow, mainly during data copying.

After the engineer arrives at the site for testing, he finds that the data can be copied between the storage devices to 300 ~ 500 Mb/s, while the local hard disk copy data on the server is only over 30 Mb/s. The problem lies in the configured 3 1 TB hard disks (RAID5 ). The customer has a server of the same type. It is a two 15000 gb sas hard drive (raid1) with a local hard drive speed of 100 ~ Between MB.

It seems that the problem lies in the three 7200-RPM disks. After communication with the manufacturer, the manufacturer agreed to change the hard disk for the customer and replace the existing 3 1 TB hard disks with 2 GB hard disks.

At this time, there was a problem. Now the customer has installed the system (Windows Server 2008 R2) and database (SQL Server 2008 R2). How can we replace the New hard disk, can the system on the original three RAID 5 disks be cloned to the new RAID 1 hard disk?

We can use the "backup and recovery" feature of Windows server to achieve this. The main idea is as follows.

(1) Your system is installed on drive C. Drive D has some data, and drive E is stored. Install the "Windows Server backup" function on the current system to back up data on drive C and drive D and system to drive E (storage ).

(2) After waiting for the new hard disk, remove the original 3 1 TB hard disk and divide the new hard disk into RAID 1.

(3) Use Windows Server 2008 R2 to install the CD and restart the server. Select "Restore" to restore the system from the E disk to the new server hard disk. Then, restart the server.

The following describes the main steps. Back up the server system.

(1) log on to the server as an administrator. In "Server Manager", add a function. In the "select function" dialog box, select "Windows Server backup function", as shown in Figure 1-1.

(2) After the installation is complete, Run "Windows Server backup" from "Administrative Tools", as shown in figure 1-2.

After the backup is complete, turn off the server power, remove 3 1 TB hard disks, replace with 2 gb sas hard disks, then turn on the server power, enter the RAID card configuration interface, configure two gb sas hard drives to raid 1. Then insert the installation CD of Windows Server 2008 R2, restart the server, and start restoring the system. The main steps are as follows.

(1) On the Windows Server 2008 installation page, select "repair computer", as shown in figure 1-11.
