An introduction to the individual functions of the bridge under the WinXP system

Note: You should be aware of the following points when configuring Windows XP Bridges:

1, configure Windows XP Bridge server without making a domain controller, as long as the configuration becomes a stand-alone server.

2, to ensure that the installed network card can work properly, which as a network Bridge server computer has two network cards.

3. The network communication protocol supported by the Windows XP Network Bridge is TCP/IP and can only forward packets in a network based on TCP/IP protocol. If your computer is using Linux or another operating system, as long as the TCP/IP protocol is properly loaded, the Windows XP Network Bridge can work in conjunction with it.

A, assign different IP addresses to two different network segments in the computer that is the bridge. Because one of the two segments that you want to connect to is 10.0.0.0, in this computer we can select a network card, assign it a fixed IP address (10.0.0.1) and subnet mask, as 10.0.0.0 network interface. Similarly, we will specify the IP address of 192.168.0.1 for "Local Connection 2" (the second network card), the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0, and the gateway is 192.168.0.1.

B, start the Windows XP Network Bridge. Right-click Local Area Connection (the first network card), select "New Bridge", and a network Bridge icon appears. However, because only one network interface exists in the network bridge at this time, the network bridge is still temporarily unable to work. We can successfully start the Network bridge by performing the same "new bridge" operation on "local Connection 2" (second network card). We can see the Network Bridge icon has changed. Right-click the icon and select Properties to check the properties of the network interface that you just joined, such as the name of the NIC, the IP address that you are bound to, and so on.

C, the Network Bridge started, the 10.0.0.0 network segment of the computer gateway are set to 10.0.0.1, the 192.168.0.0 network segment of the computer gateway are set to 192.168.0.1.

At this point in the 10.0.0.0 network segment to choose a computer (such as 10.0.0.2), ping 192.168.0.2, if you can ping, it means that the network bridge is working properly, the two network segment has been connected and can transfer documents.

D, Windows XP Network Bridge is not limited to connecting two segments, it can connect multiple network segments, of course, to use more network cards.

E, Windows XP Network Bridge can only be set manually, so the efficiency is not very high, in a large local area network, it does not function as a dedicated router.
