Break performance bottleneck

We all know that the primary problem currently encountered by campus networks is the performance bottleneck. Network applications, especially video conferencing, VOIP, online lectures, and other multimedia applications are constantly expanding, impacting the campus network. The full range of Juniper EX vswitches rely on asic r & D technology to provide L2 line rate forwarding performance: the EX 8208 vswitch provides 2.56 Tbps, and can be upgraded to Tbps of Backboard bandwidth in the future (the highest performance single switch in the industry ), eight business module slots are provided, with each slot providing a Business Board capable of up to 4200 Gbps; EX 3200 and EX provide a maximum of Gbps of board bandwidth; the full range of switches support 10g links, makes the uplink unobstructed.

Telecommunication Application Experience

With the deepening of the IT process, more and more core applications are turning to the network. Even a one-minute network strike is intolerable. In fact, many campus networks have already configured dual-host redundancy and link redundancy solutions. However, software upgrades, restart of the routing protocol, and master-slave engine switching may still cause network disconnections. So what we really need to pay attention to is the network software, that is, the operating system of network devices. The Juniper EX series switches use the highly-respected JUNOS network operating system to provide users with a rich and stable operation experience. Especially for carriers with extremely high availability requirements and even demanding financial industry JUNOS.

The full range of Juniper EX vswitches use the JUNOS software platform. With its modular design, it can independently process a process without affecting other processes (for example, it can separately restart the OSPF Protocol process, instead of restarting the entire machine ). Similarly, thanks to the modular concept, JUNOS truly achieves the separation of Network Device Control and forwarding, that is, forwarding is completed by the professional ASIC (PFE) solidified on the Business Board, such as system monitoring, protocol management and other work are done by JUNOS (using the master CPU.

Spatial barriers

Another problem comes from space. The construction of campus network is generally expanded with the geographical expansion of the park. In the beginning, a network center controls limited accessory rooms, and network maintenance personnel can control all devices in the center. However, with the continuous development of the Campus (the new campus is far away from the old campus, and the lack of professional network management), centralized control becomes increasingly difficult. To solve this problem, Juniper EX4200 introduces the concept of Virtual Chassis (Virtual Chassis, hereinafter referred to as VC). Through this function, the physical span can be large (up to 80km or more) the EX 4200 devices are connected together (can be a Gigabit link or a 10-Gigabit link) to form a logical unity. You can log on to any of the devices for configuration. The configuration is automatically distributed to other VC members. We can also use the engine of one of the devices as the main engine, and select another device as the backup. Once the main engine fails, the backup engine will smoothly take over the entire VC through GRES technology, it is completely transparent to end users and network managers.

Hardware-guaranteed QoS

Early QoS was generally implemented on the core and aggregation layer devices, but the overall effect was not satisfactory. This is because of the lack of QoS support for the access layer (previously, the access layer switch did not provide adequate QoS support ). The full range of Juniper EX vswitches are based on ASIC Technology. The ports of all EX vswitches provide 8 hardware-based service class queues. It also supports a set of common queuing, traffic shaping, and congestion management algorithms. With these mechanisms, campus network users will be able to support various types of traffic and formulate extremely fine-grained QoS policies to achieve end-to-end QoS.

Environmental protection network, low consumption

In addition, the full range of Juniper EX vswitches are adhering to the good low power consumption tradition. Compared with devices of the same scale, the energy consumption is less than 1/5. In addition, the full range of Juniper EX switches adopt high-density and compact hardware design, so more devices can be placed in the same space (the EX 4200 48 port switch is only 1U high, and the EX 8208 is only 14U high ).

It is true that the new generation of campus networks still have a lot to focus on, such as IPv6 support and access control, but their core concerns are nothing more than performance, application, and cost effectiveness, the Juniper EX series switches and their network structures are designed to meet this requirement.
