Analysis of three connection modes of virtual network of VMware workstation

When you first approached VMware Workstation, you often fret about which network connection mode to choose.

Sometimes the teacher says to choose NAT, sometimes it is recommended to bridge, and sometimes requires only the host.

Alas, what the teacher said is what.

Since do not understand that obediently follow the teacher behind the buttocks, the teacher how to ask us how to do, a little of their own room to play can not have.

Mechanical follow the teacher did so many experiments, eat so much suffering, we have not thought, we set up the experimental environment Why to choose different network connection mode, why we experiment with the other deployment is right, but is because of ignoring the connection mode this small error caused various errors, Why does the teacher always say that the ping pass before the experiment is a foundation for your success?

With your own hands-on experience to tell everyone: it is because you do not have these three kinds of network connection mode to understand.

below to my own understanding of the three types of connection mode differences.

Click on the edit in the VMware Workstation interface-Virtual network editor

is a brief introduction to these three modes in VMware Workstation

Host-only mode (H) connecting virtual machines within a private network

Bridging mode (B) connect the virtual machine directly to the external network

Nat Mode (N) The IP address of the shared host with the virtual machine

In fact, the brief introduction of VMware Workstation has summed up its essence, if we can see around corners, I think the only three words are enough to let themselves understand the essence of the three differences.

And I belong to see not necessarily can know micro fool, so by these three words or three patterns puzzled for a long time.

Every encounter a teacher to ask this question, a lot of time is the teacher told me a little understand, and then I want to go down and then carefully consider, understand, who knows, to the following, their awareness of the understanding of this confusion again ...

But in my constant trouble with the teacher's process, gradually, I have a certain understanding of the three models, and then share this, I hope the level is much higher than I see you can no longer confuse.

First introduction to host-only mode (H)

(This is my own use of viso painting very poor structure, the level is limited, we will look at it.) )

Only the host mode is characterized by the inability to communicate with the outside world, which means that it is a separate communication channel isolated from the outside world.

In this environment you can do whatever you want to do, like a virus test or something, completely isolated and safe.

Bridging mode (B)

Bridge mode is characterized by its virtual network card as the actual physical network card communication with the outside world, and its physical host on the physical network card has no connection, in other people's view, VMnet0 this network card is actually present, it communicates directly with the outside world through the route. It can be understood that when you choose the bridging mode your virtual machine is already being used by the outside world as a machine that actually exists.

Bridging mode can therefore simulate a real-world environment. such as SQL cluster experiments, failover, and so on. Bridging mode is not suitable for building DHCP,DNS servers because it is easy to conflict with related servers within the company, which can cause unexpected problems that are likely to confuse highly capable technicians.

Nat Mode (N)

Nat mode is characterized by the virtual machine and the physical machine share a physical network card, in the same network segment virtual confidential access outside the first through the virtual network card, and then through the physical network card and then through the route to communicate with the outside world. When it passes through the VMNET8 and the physical network card, the physical network card will label it, it can be understood that the virtual machine package to the outside world to send the need to bring physical machine proof. Then it communicates with the outside world in the same way that the physical machine communicates with the outside world. When it receives the information, it is passed to the physical network card by the outside world, then the label is sent to the corresponding virtual machine.

Here's a second experiment, in NAT mode, the virtual machine communicates with the physical host. After installation, VMware will silently

Install the VMNET8 virtual network card on the physical host, this NIC is in VMnet8 NAT mode, the physical host access

VMnet8 subnet, that is, as long as the physical host on the VMnet8 this NIC is enabled and IP settings are correct,

You can have the virtual machine communicate with the physical host.

Nat mode is suitable for a variety of server-building experiments, NAT mode will let you set up the server and the outside of the relevant servers do not conflict, and the functions are almost the same as in practice, so this model is suitable for some companies to build their internal network environment for testing.
