take a group as a child of another group

You can use a group as a child of another group, and assign variables to the entire group. These variables can be used for/usr/bin/ansible-playbook, but cannot be used for/usr/bin/ansible:

[Atlanta]
Host1
host2

[Raleigh]
host2
host3

[Southeast:children]
Atlanta
Raleigh

[ Southeast:vars]
some_server=foo.southeast.example.com
halon_system_timeout=30
self_destruct_ countdown=60
escape_pods=2

[Usa:children]
southeast
Northeast
Southwest
Northwest

Atlanta Raleigh will be the southeast subgroup, inheriting variables such as Some_server in parent group southeast

If you need to store a list or hash value, or if you prefer to configure the variables of host and group separately, see the next section for instructions.
