SAVFL (Symantec AntiVirus for Linux) is an anti-virus software in Linux.

1. System Requirements

Hardware requirements:
Intel™Pentium™II 266 MHz or higher CPU
256 MB or larger RAM
80 MB remaining hard disk space

Basic Operating System Requirements:
Red Hat®Enterprise Linux 3.0 ES (RHEL3ES)
SuSE™LINUX Enterprise Server 9 (SLES9)
Novell®Linux Desktop 9 (NLD9)

2. Select the installer

Sav-*. *. *-*. i386.rpm main program, which must be installed.

Savap-*. *. *-*. i386.rpm automatic protection. Optional. Only some kernels are supported. Check whether the client kernel is supported according to the readme file before installation.

(Optional) savui-*. *. *-*. i386.rpm graphical user interface. The client must have X11 installed.

Savjlu-*. *. *-*. i386.rpm use Java LiveUpdate to update user definitions. Otherwise, you can only use other methods to update user definitions. Optional.

After installation, you are advised to edit the. bashrc file under/root and add the following content:

Export PATH = $ PATH:/opt/Symantec/symantec_antivirus

This ensures that the sav command of SAVFL can be run anywhere. Otherwise, it can only be run in the directory/opt/Symantec/symantec_antivirus in the "./sav" way.

3. Install and uninstall

You can use the rpm command line parameter-I for installation. However, if the system has an earlier version of SAVFL installed, it may cause problems. Therefore, we recommend using the-U command for installation, after installation, you do not need to restart the system.

Rpm? Uhv installer name. rpm

The shield icon appears on the tray, indicating that the installation is successful.

You can run the-e command to uninstall SAV. restart the system to remove the automatic protection service.

Rpm? E sav savap savui savjlu

After uninstallation, you can delete the following directories if necessary.

/Var/symantec alarm logs and quarantined files

/Opt/Symantec/symantec_antivirus technical support Log File

/Etc/symantec configuration database

/Opt/Symantec/virusdefs

/Opt/Symantec/LiveUpdate

4. Update the virus definition

Virus definitions can be upgraded by setting up a LiveUpdate server in the LAN, or by downloading the virus definition file on the Symantec website and manually upgrading the server.

You can use methods such as GRC. DAT or sav command line to configure SAVFL. However, SAVFL cannot accept server management as the SAV in Windows, that is, the SAVFL client cannot be found in SSC.

5. Virus Detection

Download the antivirus test file Eicar.com from the website http://www.eicar.org and pass it into the system, which is immediately monitored and isolated by SAVFL automatic protection.

You can run a manual Scan. During the Scan, the Scan of SAVFL is displayed as Scanning files. After the Scan is completed, the Scan is restored to Done.
