A layer (Layer) is an HTML page element that you can position anywhere on the page. Layers can contain text, images, or other HTML documents. The appearance of the layer makes the Web page extend from two-dimensional plane to three dimensions. You can make elements on the page overlap and complex layouts. First, take a look at the following figure:

Let's start with a layer.

1, in the "Window" menu, select "Layer", or point "Insert" menu "" Layout object and select "Layer".

2. Display a layer in the page.

3, through the surrounding black adjustment handle drag control layer size

4, drag the top left corner of the selection handle can move the position of the layer.

5, click the layer mark to select a layer.

6, in the layer can insert any other elements, including picture text linked tables.

A page can draw a lot of layers, which are listed in the Layers panel. Layers can also overlap each other. The layer panel can be opened from the Menu "Window" menu and select "Layers".

Here we need to explain a few concepts. Layers have properties that are hidden and displayed. This is an important attribute of the layer and the behavior associated with it later becomes an important parameter. Click on the left side of the Layers Panel list to open the closed eyes. Eyes to open and close the presentation layer display and hide.

The layer also has a concept of layer number, which determines which layer is on the top and which layer is below when the layer is overlapped. For example, the Layer 2 layer is above the layer of layer 1. Changing the number of layers can change the stacking order of layers.

There is also a parameter on the layer board that prevents layers from overlapping. Once selected, the middle of the page cannot overlap.

There is also a parent-child relationship, which is a subordinate relationship. This is represented in the layers panel.

In the picture, Layer2 hangs below the Layer1. Layer1 is the parent layer and the Layer2 is a child layer. Drag Layer1 in the page, Layer2 also follow. Because they are chained together, and Layer2 is subordinate to Layer1. The parent layer movement affects the child layer. Move the LAYER2 layer, the LAYER1 layer does not move. That is, the child layer does not affect the parent layer.

It is easy to establish such a membership relationship method. Press the CTRL key in the layers panel to drag the child layer to the parent layer.

[transition between layers and tables]

Because layers are handy for web page layouts, some people may not like to use tables or "layout" patterns to create their own pages, but rather like to design them through layers. Dreamweaver MX 2004 can use layers to create your own layouts, and then convert them to tables.

Before you convert to a table, make sure that the layer does not overlap. Do the following: select "Modify" > "Convert" > "layer to table". You can display the Convert Layer to Table dialog box.

Select the options that you want. Click OK.

To convert a table to a layer, select Modify > Convert > table to layer. You can display the transform table as a layer. dialog box.

Select the options that you want. Click OK.
