PNG images are mainly divided into two types of png-8 and png-24.
The numbers after png8 and png24 represent the maximum color values that can be indexed and stored in this PNG format ." 8 "represents the power of 2, that is, 256 colors, and 24 represents that the power of 2 is about more than 16 million colors.
IE6 does not support png-24, And the png-8 in IE6 will appear edges, and cannot achieve completely transparent effect, need to introduce plug-ins to fix.
Baidu searched for the differences between png8 and png24, and found that the original png8 is either completely transparent or completely transparent.
Note: Translucent is not supported, so the above problem will occur, but png24 supports translucent.
First, make a comparison first, because it is estimated that the front-end person knows the most as I do, that is, PNG is an image that contains a translucent format. We also need to know:
The fundamental difference between 1.png 8 and png24 is not the color bit difference, but the storage method is different.
2.png 8 has a one-bit Boolean transparent channel (either completely transparent or completely opaque), while png24 has an eight-bit (level 256) Boolean transparent channel (so-called translucent ).
Png-8 and GIF have some similarities, the pattern is indexed color, only supports pixel-level pure transparency, does not support alpha transparency.
We generally say that "IE6 does not support PNG Transparency", which means that PNG-24 transparency is not supported. However, IE6 supports PNG-8 transparency, just as it supports GIF transparency.
Therefore, it is concluded that:
1. Cut large and colorful images into JPG images;
2. Small-sized, non-rich colors and transparent background cut into GIF or png8;
3. translucent cut into png24.
