1. Introduction to ArcGIS datastore

ArcGIS Datastore is a new component of ArcGIS10.3, a relational database management system that stores data sources for feature services published in portal for ArcGIS products. Datastore is an optional component that supports storing a large number of feature layers. There are several cases where the datastore applies:

(1) Publish a large number of feature layers

If you need to publish a large number of feature layers to the portal, it is highly recommended to use Datastore. Datastore is an optimized database system that consumes less memory and can release more services under limited hardware resources.

(2) Automatic backup of feature data

The datastore provides automatic backup functionality.

(3) Failover of the feature data store

The datastore provides failover functionality. If you use failover, you need to deploy two machines, one for the primary and one for the second.

3. Installation and Deployment

3.1. Front-facing preparation

If you use the Datastore component, the general system architecture is as follows:

, Hosted server is the managed database for ArcGIS Server,data store, which is the server. From here you can see that the Datastore component exists as a managed database of the server.

The process for deploying Datastore is as follows:

(1) HTTPS is turned on at ArcGIS server site;

(2) Configure the data store in the ArcGIS server site.

3.2. Installation and Deployment

The datastore uses 2443 and 9876 ports, and if you use a firewall, you need to open both ports. There is no special attention to component installation, the default installation is complete, the installation will automatically open the Create Data Store wizard.

3.3. Create data store

There are several ways to create them: using wizards, using the Configuredatastore utility tool.

(1) Open the wizard address: Https://localhost:2443/arcgis/datastore

(2) Enter server server address: https://gisserver.domain.com:6443

(2) Enter the ArcGIS server administrator account

(3) Enter the directory path of the data store. The directory includes a data store file, a backup directory.

Note: The data store file directory does not support UNC paths and needs to be stored on the Datastore component installation machine. The backup directory can be migrated to another machine after the configuration is complete and uses a UNC path.

(4) The following steps are created by default.

Setup is complete and you can view the registered information in Server Manager:

3.4, the main standby mode configuration

By default, the data store that is registered to the server site for the first time is the host, and the second one is registered as a standby machine.

4. Post-Deployment configuration

When the datastore deployment is complete, it is recommended to back up the data store to another machine in a production environment and configure the use of a UNC path.

By default, the Datastore component automatically creates the backup file and stores it on the same machine as the datastore. You can migrate backup files to other machines by manually migrating, and then configure the shared path using the backup files in Datastore. The specific process is as follows:

(1) Create a domain account

Datastore need to have backup directory write permissions, we recommend using a domain account, and use this account to run the Datastore service.

(3) Setting Datastore service Properties

Open the service properties of datastore in system services and change the running account for the service to a domain account. Change completion requires restart of service.

(4) Run the Changebackuplocation tool to set the backup directory path

The tool is located under the Datastore installation directory \datastore\tools. Run cmd with the administrator and execute the command:

\>changebackuplocation \\share\backups--is-shared-folder True--keep-old-backups true

If you do not deploy a domain environment, or if you do not want to run as a domain account, you can use a local account to set it up. As in the following example, it is configured as an ArcGIS account. The general flow is as follows:

( 1 ) to an administrator account (such as: Administrator ) log in to the operating system, install and configure DataStore ;

( 2 ) to create a local account on this computer (e.g., using the Server created at the time of installation ArcGIS account);

( 3 ) will DataStore the installation directory and the data directory read and write permissions are assigned to the ArcGIS account number (simple point can be set to Full Control);

(4) Modify the Datastore service, run as an ArcGIS account, and set the reboot to complete.

(5) If you need to migrate the backup directory to another machine, create an ArcGIS account on the appropriate machine, give read and Write permissions, and then follow the previous settings.
