ArcGIS, Mapinfo, and Supermap desktop systems

1. previously, the GIS desktop software was used only by ArcGIS and Supermap. MapInfo was used for 2 or 3 days. Because of its usage, there are some ideas, and the core is the ease of use of the software, and people are active;

2. The second version of a system is the most dangerous in the Mythical man-month, because it is easy to design excessively. ArcGIS is definitely an over-designed product. Everything is good, but most people think it should be better. So is the feature of over-design;

3. MapInfo is too simple. There are a lot of things you don't like, such as case-layer control. Why can't we put them on one side of the map window? Just like ArcView or Supermap, how many mouse clicks are saved;

4. The MapInfo interface is too earthy and conservative, such as ESRI, all use the new style interface. The MapInfo interface is still like things in the win31 era and has not been changed since then;

5. In comparison, ArcView is a very good product. It is no wonder that many people still use it. We hope that the new ArcGIS Explorer will be satisfactory;

6. I personally prefer the use of hypergraphs, which is at a better balance point. Of course there are still many things to be improved, such as automatic tagging (both ArcGIS and MapInfo are available, and MapInfo is doing well ), although tags can be used as an alternative, they are different;

7. because people are active, conceptual integrity, and so on. The design mentioned in the Mythical man-month is meaningful for every piece of software, I hope to make something big and complete. The reason why Microsoft's software and systems are not liked by many people is that they (at least themselves). The same is true for ArcGIS;

8. People speak lightly, just complaining.
