The Replace with model tool appears in the 3D Editor menu on the 3D Editor toolbar and applies only to Multipatch features. Use this command to replace the geometry of one or more selected features with a 3D model file that is saved on disk. Supported 3D model types include SketchUp, COLLADA, Openflight, VRML, or 3D Studio Max.
To enable this command, you must have the following conditions:
- Edit session is active
- At least one Multipatch feature layer exists in the document
- At least one Multipatch feature is selected
The Replace with model command is used to show how buildings constructed from extruded blocks are updated to a textured, complex multipatch.
How to use the Replace with model command:
Steps:
- Click the Edit Placement tool in the 3D Editor toolbar.
- Select one or more Multipatch features that you want to edit. Hold down the Shift key to select multiple features.
- Click the 3D Editor drop-down menu, and then click Replace with model.
- Browse to the location of the 3D model you want to use on the disk.
- Select the model file, and then click Open.
- The geometry of the selected feature is updated to the geometry of the 3D model.
