This article describes how to assign a logon script to a configuration file for a local user account in Windows Server 2003.

This logon script runs when local users log on to the computer locally. This logon script does not run when the user logs on to the domain.

Note: You must be logged on as an administrator or a member of the Administrators group to complete this step. If your computer is networked, network policy settings may also make it impossible for you to complete this procedure.

How to assign a logon script to a user profile

Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then select Computer Management. In the console tree, expand Local Users and Groups, and click Users. In the right pane, select the user account that you want, and view its properties.

Click the Profile tab.

In the Logon script box, type a file name for the logon script (and, if necessary, a relative path).

Note: If the logon script is stored in a subfolder of the default logon script path, precede the file name with the relative path of the folder. For example, if the Startup.bat logon script is stored in the \ Computer name \netlogon\ folder name £? Type the folder name \startup.bat.

Click Apply, and then click OK.

Note:

Logon scripts stored on the local computer apply only to users who log on to the local computer.

The local logon script must be stored in a folder that uses the "Netlogon" share name, or it must be stored in a subfolder of the Netlogon folder.

The default location for local logon scripts is the Systemroot\system32\repl\imports\scripts folder. This folder is not created in a newly installed Windows. Therefore, you must create and share Systemroot\system32\repl\imports\scripts folders by using the "Netlogon" share name.

If you do not want to create a "Netlogon" share in the default location, place the logon script in any folder that the user can access during the logon process, and then share the folder.
