By specifying shortcut keys for commonly used symbols in a Word 2010 document, users can enter common symbols directly from the keyboard. The shortcut key here refers to the key combination of CTRL or ALT with one or more letters and symbols. The steps for specifying shortcut keys for common symbols in Word 2010 are as follows:
In step 1th, open the Word 2010 document window and switch to the Insert Ribbon. Click the symbol button in the symbols group, and click the more symbols option, as shown in Figure 2009123101.

Step 2nd, open the Symbol dialog box, select the symbol (such as → number) for which you want to specify the shortcut key, and click the shortcut button, as shown in Figure 2009123102.

In the 3rd step, in the Open Custom Keyboard dialog box, position the cursor in the press new shortcut key edit box. Then press one or more letters or symbols (such as ctrl+z) while holding down the CTRL or ALT key, and then click the Specify → close button, as shown in Figure 2009123103.

Step 4th, return to the Symbol dialog box and continue to set shortcut keys for other symbols. Set Finish click the Cancel button to close the Symbol dialog box.
