Automated disconnection of wireless routes in Household Network difficulties

Ask for help: a few of our colleagues set up a shared network in the dormitory. There was a laptop and two desktops, and three machines surf together.

Using a Broadband Router for dial-up Internet access, we use a SOHO-level multi-functional Broadband Router with wireless features. at ordinary times, three of us share the Internet to play games and browse webpages, however, we recently discovered that the dormitory network is too unstable, so we can say that it cannot be tolerated. In normal times, network usage often drops.

After repeated tests and records of the fault information, we found a fault rule, that is, it was automatically dropped once in the first half of an hour. However, after each disconnection, after a period of time, it will be able to restore to normal again, although we can continue to use the network, we all know that once we play a game, the game characters in it are likely to be stuck in the game and killed or beaten by the players, so I want to ask what causes this problem. I hope the experts can give us some advice and help us introduce this problem so that our network can run well.

Expert answer: From this user's remarks, we can understand that the dormitory's network structure is relatively simple, but it is shared surfing through a low-end broadband wireless router and three machines. The key to the problem is to lose the line once every half an hour and recover immediately after the line is dropped. So what is the problem?

According to my experience, network disconnection can be divided into two categories: one is the cause of the device itself, for example, the hardware problem of the device causes the network instability and interruption, or the network connection is not smooth due to the hardware interface quality; the other type is software problems, such as parameter settings faults or viruses. Therefore, we should analyze the problem of this instance from these two aspects.

1) Hardware problems:

In general, the hardware failure rate of the Broadband Router is relatively low. In addition, as mentioned in this example, one minute after the disconnection is restored, it returns to normal. Therefore, it is unlikely that the hardware of the device is faulty. It may be due to a line problem. You can contact the Telecommunications Department to check whether there is a problem with the telephone line used for ADSL dialing, or because there is an extension in the dormitory, this will cause a disconnection caused by a string of line interference. In this case, you can remove the extension or use a tool called the splitter to reduce interference signals.

2) software problems:

Software problems are similar to Parameter setup errors or client computer viruses. From the clues provided by the readers, both cases are possible. Next, let's talk about how to check and solve different problems in sequence.

If it is caused by computer viruses on the client side, especially the worms such as ARP spoofing, a large amount of traffic will be generated when sufficient virus packets are accumulated in the network to impact the port of the Broadband Router, when the traffic is too high, the vro port will be self-protected, that is, it will be automatically disabled to make it invalid, to discard all virus data packets. In this case, the client computer will be disconnected and cannot connect to the external network. However, when the self-protection of the Broadband Router closes the port, all the virus packets are discarded, so within one minute) this port will automatically return to normal, which is why the reader returns to normal about one minute after the actual disconnection problem occurs.

When the fault is caused by the ARP spoofing virus, we should first install system patches for the computer operating systems of each client to compensate for various vulnerabilities. Next, we should install anti-virus software to update the virus database to scan and kill the worm, if necessary, you can also use arp-d to clear ARP cache information and restore the network to normal. Only after the virus is completely cleared can the network be restored to normal, solving the above-mentioned automatic disconnection problem. Of course, for some very powerful ARP viruses, we can only use tools to solve them. For example, installing an arpfirewall on the local machine or using the MAC binding function of the vro to limit the attack and propagation of viruses, these are very effective preventive methods, which have a significant effect in the actual use and maintenance process of the author.

Of course, if the disconnection problem is not caused by viruses, the most likely problem is the software Parameter Setting Problem in the Broadband Router. We can go to the Broadband Router management interface. Compare the parameter settings one by one, especially the dialing settings at "network parameters> WAN Port Settings" to see if they are set to "on-demand connection and automatically connect when there is access, automatic disconnection wait time X minutes. If this is the case, some people in the Intranet need to access the external internet before the Broadband Router will dial the internet, and the network will be automatically disconnected when there is no network access within X minutes. We can change it to "automatic connection, automatic connection after startup and disconnection" to solve the problem and clear the phenomenon of automatic disconnection.

Improper software setup may also be described by the reader. As mentioned above, when the network does not have internet access within five minutes, the Broadband Router will automatically cut off the external network dial-up connection. At this time, someone will find that the internet cannot be accessed, in the next one minute, the Broadband Router will quickly dial up to connect to the ADSL line as needed, as a result, the network resumes normal after one minute.

In addition, the allocation of vrouters to IP addresses of different clients in the software settings should also attract our attention. For example, if two computers share the same IP address, they will conflict, as a result, one of them cannot access the Internet. The DHCP Automatic Network Address Allocation Function is properly allocated, and each client is set to obtain network information through DHCP instead of manually setting fixed IP addresses and other parameters, thus completely solving this problem.

In short, in the actual network troubleshooting process, we can all judge the fault according to the hardware + software combination route described in this article, especially in the software aspect, starting with setting up and virus, solving the actual network problems is the best way to maintain the home network.
