The full range of multi-seat support from the underlying system to the application layer of Fedora17 has been improved, and a fully automated plug-and-play multi-seat experience has been achieved. The so-called "Multi-seat" means that a computer can be used by multiple independent users at the same time. In the past era of text operations, multi-seat support was a perfect solution for Unix-like Linux systems. However, after entering the graphic era, this work became more complex, involving the x.org configuration file, login manager, desktop environment, and so on. During the development of Fedora 17, developers and Plugable Cooperation to improve the USB DisplayLink graphics card driver in the company DC-125/165 Multi-seat plug-and-play is supported in the product.
The procedure is simple:
Connect the DC-125/2.0 with the host installed with Fedora 17 GNOME 3 with a universal USB 165 wire connection. Connect the DC-125/165 to another monitor, keyboard, and mouse. Without any configuration, other family members can use the GNOME 3 logon dialog box on the new monitor. Some specific implementation details:
The graphic rendering of the newly connected terminal is completed through the GPU in USB DisplayLink. Provides a complete GNOME Shell graphics acceleration experience. The udisks responsible for mounting external devices are also improved. Each user can only see their own large-capacity USB storage devices. Plugable open-source all USB DisplayLink GPU content and has been merged into the upstream. The implementation of this function depends on systemd, so it will not appear in Ubuntu using Upstart. This feature can also be implemented on other multi-seat support devices using USB DisplayLink GPU, with only a few modifications required. This feature is backward compatible with the New Generation X Server Wayland. A graphical Configuration tool will be added in the future to provide multi-seat support for fine tuning. Currently, it is only implemented in the GNOME 3 environment. The support for KDE 4 is being discussed with the upstream.
