The time Machine on the Mac is good, but it's troublesome to use a removable hard disk for every backup. If there are more than one Mac can you put everyone's time Machine unified Backup to the cloud or a local area network on a server it? Most of our labs are using Macs, and now we need a backup solution. Google, found that this use of time Machine backup to the remote computer solution is the most convenient and inexpensive, only need a normal PC can act as a backup server.
Apple used its own Apple filing PROTOCOL (AFP) protocol to provide file-sharing services, and FreeNAS just supported the deal (seemingly openfiler has not yet achieved AFP). Installing FreeNAS on a single server or virtual machine is easy to install and is omitted here.
Configure FreeNAS
Once installed, enter the Web admin interface to create a new user, then create a new APF share, select Sharing->add Apple (AFP) Share on the left menu, pay attention to the hook disk Discovery and choose Disk Discov ery mode is time Machine:
Take care of it!
Configure MAC
Now the rest of the configuration in the Mac complete, let the Mac connection just created AFP Share, click on the Mac top menu Go->connect to server ..., fill in the FreeNAS server IP address 192.168.2.200 connection server:
A successful connection will mount an AFP share disk, and then configure time Machine to select this disk as the backup disk:
All right, wait for the automatic backup:
